Getting Mesa sounds out of a JCM800?

That's a big problem then. Being an "Amp Modeler" and all. You'd think that they would get that part right. So if you consider them as a multi stomp box modeler, it's ok for that.

What they got right is the marketing needed to sell a million of these gizmo's and if you hate modellers its probably becuase you too have already bought one at some point. Actually I'm a little dissapointed you can hardly find a guitar processor out there these days that doesnt have some kind of modelling built in to it because you often cant seperate your distortion effect from your amp models and these units often offer far less parameter options overall.

I have an old Digitech RP21 with a real preamp tube and almost every studio effect you can imagine EXCEPT modelling and I still havent found anything modern I like enough to replace it with a live amp. Its a bit more complex like a piece of studio rack gear to set up but is a much more rewarding finely tuned piece of gear to use for strait up guitar effects with a live amp.

Yea, this whole argument has been beaten to death and there is no point to it. Besides, fighting on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics.

Even if you win, you’re still retarded.

I always like the comments that go, "Well with a POD I have 30 amps" Uhhh no, sorry you have no amps.

I'll tell you the biggest problem with damn PODs. They do not react like a tube amp does. Or even a solid state amp. The attack is not the same. And neither is the sustain. Hold a chord on a POD and watch it turn to shit after about 5 seconds. All that lovely compression coming from tubes. Well, it's nothing but a bad algorithm on a POD.

i know they don't react like tube amps do, when you go direct into a PA that is. thats why i got the atomic amp, i honestly think if alot of the "pod bashers" heard it, then you'd like it. it warms the tone up and it really responds like a tube amp, pretty much because the atomic is a tube amp. it takes alot of tweaking but i love my tones.

I go away for the weekend and you guys tear the place up! Anyway (original poster here) I auditioned a few used Mesa combos over the weekend and picked up a Studio .22+ (with factory EQ) that sounds pretty sweet.

The old Marshall does what it does well and I just wanted some other options for the studio ... the 2 amps compliment each other nicely I must say. Plus another excuse to buy some gear is ok by me ... my client loved the tone and it recorded nicely with a 421 and a Beyer 260.

Thanks for the input from most of you and you may continue the POD vs AMP war ... :p

BTW, I think PODS, etc are great for scratch tracks/practice but I would take a miced up amp 9/10 times
