from24back to 16 for CDwrite , a new problem rises...

ok i'm recording in 24bit right now and mix it out sure the quality is much better than 16bit
but i have to change its bitrate to 16 right?
in order to burn it to cd
i use change bit in samplitude to 16
and write with plextor
but the resulting
tracks have ugly noises in it!
i read that noise can happen when converting from 24 to 16
but how to avoid it and have nice clean audio tracks like the original wavmix?

Did you use dither when you converted to 16 bit? It should come out sounding just fine....

cos in the s/w it didn't have this feature
how can i use it?
along with convert?

Using Cakewalk PA9, I've found that you have to leave yourself plenty of headroom working in 24bit when you plan to convert to 16bit! Anthing close to 0dB at 24bit will end up with digital distortion after coverting to 16bit. This may be your problem.

I mention headroom bkz I mix totally within my software. I may have 16 tracks of audio that I eventually mixdown to stereo tracks. When you do this, the individual tracks overlay on themselves and the overall dB level of the mix is much higher than the individual tracks. I've found, working in 24 bit, that the "near 0 dB" points of the final mix in 24 bit want to clip or distort when converted to 16 bit. It doesn't matter if I dither or not . . . but, it happens never the less. I've learned to keep the level of the highest peak in the final 24bit mix at -4 dB or so. When I convert to 16 bit , keeping my levels down in the mix, I have no problems.

Try this experiment. Compare the nasty noises with your tracks. I would bet that the areas of concern happen at the high peaks. Go back to your 24bit mix . . . lower the dB levels of any individual tracks that tend to hog the mix. If you don't have any clipping in your mix, you may be able to lower the volume of the final mix by a few dB's. After you are sure that no peak in the 24 bit mix is near the clipping point, then convert to 16 bit. Chances are the problem will be eliminated.
