Thanx for listening, folks!

I dont have much in the way of gear, but:

I would like to start using my electric violin. At the risk of doing a cross-post ( I posted this in " The Rack":)

I am thinking of buying a J-Station. I am tired of paying bills that are not mine, but I think I could sell enough CDs and books to pay for it.

Does anybody own one? Is it good? Am I wasting my money? Does anyone know the best price for one? Is there anything comparable at that price ($150). I need some sort of amp modeler before I can record my electric. Cheers.

I've got both the POD (the original one...not the newer expensive one) and the J-station. I like them both and in many ways they are similar. The J-station allows better editing via the computer with your sound (or without the computer too), and has better effects (or a variety of them...like different reverbs and such) than the POD. I think the POD "blackface" settiing is fantastic, and I like a J-station patch for leads. However, I must say that they both probably lean towards the guitar player that wants to add some [different kinds of]"crunch" to their sound, and not so much the cleaner stuff, even though they both offer "clean settings". The J-station is $150 everywhere and the POD is now $299, I think...but is now the new improved version. I'd get the J-station first. I don't use them to mimic or 'model' an amp sound (except for maybe the Fender one), but rather just get a sound that I like. An amp is the way to go, rather than modeling. But both are great at getting GREAT sounds, imo...whether they sound like a real live amp or not.

However, after telling you all this, I am not sure why you would want to go thru such a 'stompbox'. I'd think you'd want something that offers higher quality effects and such. ..but then you'd be getting into significantly larger $$$ outlays. I am talking about multi effect rack gear and stuff like that. How are you amplifying your sound?...thru the PA I would suppose? If you haven't already, I'd try one out at you local Guitar Center, and I think you might find that that is not what you really may be looking for.... Rather than amp modeling, I'd think you'd want nice chorus', flangers, reverbs, delays and stuff like that, and create your tone and sound with a nice preamp with a parametric EQ or such, rather than a guitar device.

I want this for me electric violin, because I want the crunchy guitar sound. I of course wouldnt use it on acoustic, I am looking for a sound like Mark Wood.

First off.....nice violin work on the song.....60 tracks did you say?! Geez!!

I have a POD and a J-Station and the Berringer V-Amp. All of them are fine and they all have some sounds they do better than the others. The cheapest is the V-Amp at $129 at most discount places, maybe you can get it even a bit cheaper and it surprised the crap out of me. It flat out has a better clean sound than either of the others and some very good rock amps.....only thing is, it feels pretty liteweight but if you're using it for recording, it should hold up. Comes with a fairly decent gig bag and a pedal for switching presets.

J- Station at $150 adds a couple of fairly good bass-amp models and a lot of the amps have a more 'natural' sound to them than the POD. It does have some very good effects and it's a nice solid chunk of metal. Feels very durable. I don't do any 'puter editing of the sounds 'cause I find the knobs to be sufficient so I can't comment on that.

Then the POD 2.0, I think it's going for $250 now that the new XT is out. It's a nice unit and I'm glad I have one but you don't need to spend the bucks.

Really....I like them all and I truly think that any of them would do what you want just fine so you might as well get the cheapest one.

Lastly.....have you noticed the similar sonics between a sax and a violin? We might could think of something interesting to do with that. PM me if you're interested.

Simply stellar execution and technique delivered with passion and the utmost emotion! ( Feel free to PM me if either of you need my fingers on future endeavors.)

peace,
flat-9
