Okay;
It sounds like the pc board connections to the DC in jack have been flexed and broken.
This was the case on my small fostex.

Simple Fix:

1. Carefully remove the small phillips screws that hold the case together.

2. Examine the solder connections on the printed circuit board where the input jacks are mounted. (The solder tabs serve two purposes, electrical connections and physical mounting to the pc board)

3. If the solder connections seem loose or broken, just touch the tip of a 25-40 watt pencil type soldering iron to the solder. This should tighten up the mount. You could add just a bit of new solder if necessary....just a small amount.

4. If this does not fix the problem, you may have a cracked board or a broken wire trace. Inspect a little closer...then write back

Sincerely;

if anyone has owed or owns a fostex x 18 i have a problem. For some reason the dc in portion of the deck needs to be pushed down rather hard for me to get an audio signal (in and out). Now this happens regardless of whether i am using ac or dc power...anyone know why this is or a cheap way to fix it.
