Hey guys.

I was digging through files while migrating to a new system. I found a few songs that were rejects in my bids to some labels and my producers sometime early last year. These were just the first copies of songs like I work on them at home, but never made the light of day. All done with a really basic setup, Delta44, Sonar1, SPc-1, Symetrix 528, Mackie 1604vlz, jv1010...that's it. Also, no one but me touched these, as, again, they were the rejects. :)

Anyways, tell me if you have any questions or comments.

All here:

"Yesterday's Gone"
"See Through Me"
"Like You"

very nice man. my favourite was "yesterday's gone" - especially the vocal delivery. nice harmonies in the chorus too.

I won't even bother to comment on the production (if you've listened to my stuff so far you'll know why), but I just wanted to say that I like the style - very much the kind of sound I'd like to achieve. The songs are strong too, particularly "yesterday's gone" which has a great hook.

if those are your out-takes, where's the real stuff? :D

Oh, that's it? :) I don't even know what that stuff is. Maybe I should find out, it sounds pretty good. I like the last one. Thick production. Too rich for me in sounds, but well done.

The vocals sound out front more inthe 3rd one than the 1st. I think that helps a lot.

I figure the non-rejects if they are in production with someone you wouldn't want to publicize. But maybe after they are released or where they are going I'd like to hear the demos and a link to the final, of course.

Hey man,
Good tunage...
They are all well written tunes man with nice melodys and good chord structures...
My suggestion to you would be to re-track them as country tunes...
ala' Al Carmichael or Chris Harris style...
POP rock ballads don't get cuts....country ballads do...ya know?

and get real strings or a better font for "see through me" man...
I really like the feel on this one man...very cool..

good vox dude..

yup...all good tunes...

take it easy man,
Joe

Hey guys-

Thanks for the listens and feedback. I have seriously thought about doing country music, it actually fits my bluegrass/southern gospel roots better. My problem is I know guys doing rock and I know no one doing country to get "in". Some of my accepted music has turned into a kind of ghostwritten deal, which kind of sucks, but then again, it gets some bills paid. Sometimes I just like seeing my name on credits more than I like getting paid. Hopefully there will be a pretty big project finally out at the end of summer that I'll be able to share.

Thanks again,
H2H

Wow! After hearing so much crap lately, stumbling onto your "rejects" is a real breath of fresh air. Really good writing and production happening here. Its funny, as I was listening to Yesterdays' Gone, I was thinking, "this guys voice and song is just a few degrees from the modern country stuff that straddles the line between country and rock/alternative. Then I read Joro's post and I had to laugh!

This song is better than the "big hit" on a lot of albums. Its sounds kick ass too! I truly hope you have continued success. You sure do deserve it.

Thanks daddy-o. It's been rough lately and that helps right now. By the way, do YOU think I should put more of that "neo-country" sound into it and try it that way? I mean, take it the few degrees that way?

Thanks,
H2H

uh..the only good thing about these songs that i can see is the recording quality is nearly perfect. but who cares if the music is so cliche and overdone that i cant even get through a full song. nothing here is origional at all, and its a waste of my time to listen to it. seriously, its pop music that i hear on the christian rock station every day because the douche bags programed my disc changer to that station. im sorry to probably make you feel like shit, im not trying to do that, although it might sound like it...im just getting pissed off when i hear the same old boreing shit. please, can someone write something that doesnt sound like a bunch of jesus freak teenagers listen to it. dont interpret my comments as anything but frustration as its 5:30 in the morning...but whatever, im not sure where im going with this. i just really hate this music. maybe its just my opinion that this is really boreing and overdone.

it's "boring" dick-wad...

You obviously don't know Jack shit about music man....
or perhaps you are frustrated because your own original music sounds like shit....

H2H did write good tunes man...

get your head out of your ass already....

what a dip stick...

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of what kind of music they like. I don't like hardcore or electronica, and would think the same things you said if I had to listen to it. So no problem at all! Actually, most of my audiences in my life have been made up of teenie bopper jesus freaks, so I must be hitting it right.

Actually, I appreciate the comment about the quality of the recording. I did these songs myself after I had been frustrated about getting no results with big name producers and studios and paying alot for it. I'm glad I can get close to that by myself at home, so thanks.

And joro, thanks for standing up for me:).

Sounds like nopoetic is shooting for judge rotation on American Idol...."I can be even more negative than that Simon fella"....wonder what kind of music you have to write to be considered "good" by him? I shudder to think, because I think what you are doing is excellent.

Hard2Hear--in answer to your question--yes, you ought to try a couple tunes like that. It might make some ears perk up down on the Row. With such good production and engineering skills, somebody might want to take you in too.

Hey H2H - Just downloaded your 3 tunes. Listened to Like You. Nice tune, maybe a little bit of clipping in the recording ? Could be some stuff I'm hearing from when the song was converted to mp3 ?

See Though Me - Nice intro, like the acoustic, like the strings even if they don't sound real, I'm almost hearing a bit of some Collective Soul or Goo Goo Dolls. Good song.

Yesterday's gone - Better production. Good song. Nice harmonies.

I can't put my finger on it but your sound reminds me of a Canadian guy from Montreal David Usher..

Good stuff ! Keep it up H2H

Thanks for the listen. :)

gee Mike, thanks for posting your "rejects".....I feel a whole lot better about my writing now

:p :p :D :D :) :) ;) ;)

seriously, i have to agree about the country thing......nopoetic has the right to not like the music but as part of the country music buying community, I would welcome you with open arms.........Im wondering what nopoetic thinks is good music?.....

Hey Gidge!
Sorry 'bout not giving you a "thanks"
Thanks.:)

I'm already working on re-tracking and remixing those, as well as several others. Actually, when I found the actual projects and listened, I couldnt believe how bad the mixes sounded to me personally. But Im my own worst critic. Anyways, I'm getting ready to do some real production for another album thats not mine and leaving for it tomorrow, so when I get back in a couple weeks I'm goinna work on and put up some more country-fried works for you guys go pick over. Cross your fingers for me, I'm goinna try to land a gig playing a big fall tour, too.:)

Thanks everyone!

good to see no one here takes the bait for the flaming. we're all past that here. if i hate something i don't tell the person, just because it's entertainment. That just happens to be the segment of industry that we're in. it's either entertaining to the listener or not. if it ain't, does it matter so much to get all worked up about it to the level of 'hate?' I don't have that much energy to spend on it, I just move on, there's so much good stuff to comment on.

Jesus freaks have a right to exist and have their music too. I just hope that the music made for the Jesus freaks is recorded well and maybe even written well too. Why not? If they have the bucks for the CD, sell it to them. Also, why spread negative vibes around? Who knows, maybe the producer/ engineer/ writer/ singer/ intrumentalist, etc. for the Jesus freaks can help you with your project or help you with info on your project, or whatever. :o

we're all musicians and we still support eachother. I do draw the line, tho on the nazi music. Not that I've heard any, but I guess it's out there. Any explicitly hateful music if there is any, I can't support the contributors to it. That's hypothetical anyway.... Facist or racist music, but still, I wouldn't even comment on it. I'd ignore it. blah blah blah, just me rambling on. ;)

I met some guys at the music stores last night, I have no idea what music they're into, but just the fact that they're music people makes them easy to talk to and relate to and get along with on any level. share the love bro.
