I have a client in Brooklyn NY who just spent roughly 75,000 for a pro quality control room and iso booth in his home

and the 2 rooms are only 335 s.f..

Seeing how its in Brooklin, was it on an upper floor Rod? BTW, nice to see you chime in here. We need a pro around here once in a while to keep me on my toes

Thanks Rod. If you don't mind, could you possibly critique a few things I've been wondering about? I know your probably overwhelmed with work, but a simple yea nea would suffice. If you can, I'll post some .jpgs on this thread, as they have to do with Myriads project, as well as a thread I'm working on to post here as a possible ongoing "sticky". I'm trying to draw a catalog of common HR construction issues/solutions. The mod said to post it and he'll run it by the other mods for possibly makeing into a permenant sticky, which I would think eliminate people having to ask the same questions over and over and....over..........and .................................over and..............

















over. Although, sometimes I think they don't want that. You know....hits/advertizement and all that crap. Anyway let me know if you have a time problem with chiming in.

Just a small update. I called a local glass shop to get a quote on some glass just because I was curious. They called me back after they checked with their supplier and here's what I got...

1/2" glass, unpolished edge 2x5 - $290
3/4" laminate glass (two pieces), unpolished edge 2x5 - $378

I actually thought that was fairly reasonable, but I'd love to hear some opinions on it.

Hey, your getting better. Check an LCD at Walmart. Same size with camera for computer. By the time you frame and buy all the neoprene and trim....well you'll see. Besides, once you understand how the Equalateral triangle/monitor/38% room length ratio works out... then you might begin to understand.

Another question...

Would it be acceptable to only isolate the live room from the rest of the structure since that's where the loudest sounds will come from? In other words, can the control room and ISO booth be connected to the outside structure? Also, can I use a staggered stud system on the control room and ISO booth to cut a cost corner and still get good isolation?

COOL! I'll be in touch. Mostly, I'm doing this to improve and expand my Sketchup skills. If it helps someone in the meantime, all the better.

btw, I know this is "off the subject", but checkout my latest "lesson" below. I've been trying to learn the concepts behind Polyhedrals. I've learned more in a week than I did in a whole year of geometry. Sketchup is amazing when it comes to this stuff. Makes it easy to visualize.

BTW, ever heard of VRML files? I came across these during my investigation into Polyhedrals. Man, what a mindfuck. You have to download a Windows "plugin" to view these kind of files. Here is an explanation.

Hi Myriad. I think thats a matter only your neighbors could answer vs how loud you MONITOR in the control room during sessions as well as mixdown.

And actually its a matter of "layout" as well. If its only a matter of using a Staggered stud assembly vs a standard wall assembly vs whats between the control room and the outside world...ie...another room or series of rooms. Its hard to say untill you actually have the property where you are going to build this and anylize the situation. But your budget has a bearing as well

Thats why its difficult to design for people online, when GUESSING what the overall criteria is. You have no way of knowing. A plan is only as good as the intended result, and if you don't really know what the criteria is at this point...well, I think you get my drift. An assembly designed by virtue of guessing may NOT be good enough when the final location is analized for Transmission Loss success.

vs what? All assembly types have TL ratings. Like I said, it all depends on the things I mentioned above. An exterior Staggered stud wall rating may NOT be good enough, IF say you are recording a band at 110db and your neighbors mother in law is asleep...20 feet from your exterior wall.

Got home too late last night Myraid, I'm overwhelmed with remodeling my father in laws mobile home to sell it. I have to get it on the market by the end of June What a pita. btw, just be glad you don't need this kind of iso. Check these out. Thiese are a few of the construction photos for Manifold Studios. These are the the bond beam above the control room window. DOUBLE WALL MASONRYaround a steel I beam. can you imagine what this cost?
