Hi all.

I have old versions of Sonar and Cakewalk, an EMU 0404 soundcard, a Roland JV1010 synth and a Korg NX5R synth. (Modules Only) Am also using a Studio 64 XTC (on an XP machine) to patch it all together.

When I ran Win 98 (eons ago) the Studio 64 had an matrix interface to patch what one wanted to what output needed but this no longer exists so I'm somehat confused on routing to correct ports (See #2 below).

Now, after a lot of years away from it, I'm trying to get back into writing / recording and although I have everything functioning, I have two prollums.

1. I have never been able to figure out the proper way to send control messages to access any banks on either synth except the GM banks. That's sad, I know. Lot's of great sounds I have never even heard. I do know to issue a Controller 0, then a Controller 32 but Bank info is foreign ground for me. In any more recent Cakewalk or Sonar ver I can do this all in Event Viewer but just don't understand commands for Bank and Patch control messages nor how to input them into the viewer. My manuals use MIDI speak, which I have problems understanding so I need some simple terms.

2. Because of the way I'm patching via cables to the 64XTC, I'm seeing incoming MIDI data streams on both modules when I am only addressing one or the other so I am assuming that I have something hooked up incorrectly.

Any help with these issues would make me one happy guy. I have to score some horns and strings for an upcoming music event and then record and mix so some folks can have some tracks to work with. If anyone responding knows how to do Bank / Patch changes in the Sonar interface and could show me something about that I would be very grateful for that as well. Maybe I can ask when I've some time to spare about simple language MIDI primers and start REALLY using MIDI.

Thanks a bunch - in advance, for any help.
