Fender Jazz American Bass 60th anniversary

k, so i got this expensive beast of a bass for about $1500 (canadian) and seems like i've rushed..i've got too many questions
anyways,
my bass doesn't slap as well as it used to i think. i've slapped a LOT on this bass but i've only had it for 3 months, could it still be the "old" strings causing the problem, or the single coil pickups or too much bass setting on the amp (the fricken peavey microamp i own) ..?
or all of the above.

you said "as well as it used to" .... that to me means strings are the most likely culprit and should be changed - it is also the cheapest test comapred to upgrading everything else...... my .02c anyway.
