I just watched the rock band The Killers on MTV2 playing every song from their new album. When they played the single, the guitar player was playing a hollow body guitar with a Fender maple neck. The headstock was kind of an odd shape.. almost a cross between the Tele and Strat headstock.

I did a little digging and haven't seen anything like it on the internet. Anyone know what it is?

Are you talking about the Fender Starcaster maybe?

Sweet guitar.....is that your's?

No I have Strats & Teles but a Starcaster has never joined the guitar harem so far. I did play in a Honky tonkin' country band where the rhythm player had a Starcaster though, I thought it was too cool! Next time we gigged he had traded it off for a Mosrite~I sure couldn't figure that move out?????

Yeah-Mosrite to me is maybe surf music (Ventures) or punk rock (Johnny Ramones) not the Country/Rock honky tonk stuff~~~~~~~~

That's a matter of taste. They are, however, complete POS.

if ya want one there is a mom and pop music store about 15 miles from me that has a old starcaster hanging on the rack, its been there since the 70's. It wouldnt surprise me if they sent the salseman who finally sold it to hawaii or something as a prize.

anyone know how rare they are? i don't see any on ebay..

When I heard about the Starcaster, I decided to look them up on eBay as well, and have since from time to time. I've seen a few up there - they aren't totally rare. The going price seemed to range from $1500 to $2000. Also, if you look under Completed Listings, there is an auction for one.

pretty ugly, IMO

looks like something Peavey would've done in the late 70's.

Bleh!

Hmmmm .......... I had one that I really regret getting rid of. It definitely wasn't a POS. I liked the sound quite a bit and it had a nice playing neck.

why would they do that?
Are you sure they are just $10 bucks Random? They recieved such high ratings, surely they are at least $29.99 and that isn't all, if you purchase within the next 10 min, surely they will throw in a clip on amp

Another review had this to say about Walmart fender starcaster guitars....

Play like a rock star on the Starcaster® by Fender®. This package, perfect for the enthusiastic novice, comes complete with everything you will need. The Starcaster® offers the quality you’ve come to expect from fender and will certainly provide hours of playing enjoyment. :D

I personally have not looked one over.

reminds me of a thinline Tele

which I think are ugly as anything too. Might play great, might sound even better. I just don't like the looks of them. I don't like Guild Starfires either, or most any electric Gretsch ever made. Just not my cup of tea.

My opinion doesn't count for anything, but that doesn't stop me from giving it. :D
