That isn't Bin Laden......it's the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens. He hopped off "The Peace Train" a while back and now he's on "The Highway to Hell".

I'm waiting for my first multi-box to arrive. I've had a bunch of single FX boxes and I think they're great for live stuff, but I've been curious about the "all in one" units for recording so I'm gonna give the GNX2 a whirl.
I can hear the purist sighs, but I won't know if I don't try.

Favorite boxes have been dunlop phaser and DD5 delay.

Live, I go way over your 5 pedal limit. But I honestly find a use for everything. (And I don't even use a pedalboard! none of the old-school pedals would fit on one anyway.) This setup gives me the tools I need to get totally clean, totally juicy, or totally heavy... Also, it's very loud. I think the V4 with the 7027 tubes weighs in around 150 watts.

I can't imagine gigging with less than 2 or 3 distortion pedals, if you play music with a lot of stylistic variation. Someday I imagine I'll use the Line6 distortion pedal for everything, but the Foxx fuzz is just the heaviest thing ever, totally unmatched. Plus, it was made in the 70's, and it's covered in red velvet.

LP/Old Ibanez Saber (Prefer the LP, Ibanez is a backup)

into a Boss TU2 (not an effect, but in on the board) into a MXR Phase90, into my Marshall JCM800 2205 split channel. I use the Phase 90 once or twice during our set, thats all. I used to use TONS of effects, then I went out and bought a GOOD tube amp, and now I just don't feel they are needed. Just me. I play a sort of melodic punk/hardcore/emo thing (better described by this :
, thats my band playing one of our songs)

Jake

Samick Strat Copy (yes, cheap - but decent)
into a BOSS DS-1
into a Laney TF300 (120watt) combo...

alternate between that, and that with a Dunlop Original Crybaby..

for metal...

Dan Electro 56-U2
Boss Turbo-Overdrive
Boss Super Chorus
some cheapo Volume/Wha
Dod Classing tube
into any amp i can get my hands on...

When recording, I like to use a POD, or mic my vintage Fender Bandmaster running through a Marshall cab.

For jamming I like:

Guitar: Strat with Seymour Duncan vintage pick-ups
Amp: Messa Boogie DC-10 with extension cab.
Pedals: Voodoo Labs Microvibe, Dunlop Crybaby. For the really heavy distortion I use the dirty channel on the Mesa.

I really like my Digitech RP200 now that I've overwritten all the factory preseta with my own.A very good box for the $130 it cost me.Another favorite of mine is my Danelectro Rocky Road Leslie sim.Sounds very good, cost me $35.

:D
yo, lemon! that talk box is the most difficult thing to set up and get to sound right! it is a major pain in the arse but when used just right makes some sweet growling distortion
the instructions say "may cause physical discomfort"
it is pretty cool to crank it way up and feel your fillings rattling!
horrid? YES!
cool? VERY!

Old live setup:
Heartfield EX>Mesa Boogie Quad>Lee Jackson amp>SM57>mixer
(a bit-o-reverb at the amp)

New live setup:
Ibanez RG550>SansAmp PSA-1>mixer
(add a bit-o-delay at the board)

KISS:
No need for extensive effects. They just mask my playing nuances.

A few subtle aspects of the Boogie were better than the SansAmp, but ooooooh... It's sooo much easier to set up my rig. Leave the SansAmp in the rig with the mixer and just plug in and go at the gig.
