ez listening

Funny. I almost feel like this song was inspired by or in defense of that Orpheus tune from last week. Of course, you probably already had worked on this and I may be way off.

Anyhow, the point is I disliked the Orpheus stuff for many reasons. I don't dislike this near as much because of the more quircky elements like the cool piano and ebow.

It's not stuff I would buy, but I can appreciate it more. It seemed less generic to me. I only listened to one Orpheus song so I cannot say that is all true about his stuff, but what I listened to sounded like what I have heard in something like the Discovery Store.

This needs more in my opinion. It could tell more of a story, but it has some very cool elements. Good job and I am glad you are settled in your new pad!

It's tough to get "everything" about Sam's songs on a first listen. Proven by having made/listened to a CD of Sam's stuff... the most enjoyable stuff was stuff I didn't get the first, or tenth time around.

This is right there. The music kind of exists not to be understood, or something... maybe how Sam feels... someone who can't just be figured out really quickly.

Complexity of your stuff eludes me at first, until sometime later when thinking of something else and it kind of clicks. It reminds me of the places which you and I have obviously both been in life, and also paints a picture of places that only you know.

What a load of bulls***...

But I mean it :)

Sorry but any critique of sound quality would be no better than the worst anyone else could give, since there's no good sound room in this house yet. But a shout to a good friend and support for what he's doing... if nothing more than encouragement.

The song will get more listens...

Missed you, brotha. You and your unique musical flavor.

Doug H - thanks for coming back man.. I agree with your mix thoughts..

muzeman - 'synthesized zitar' :D thanks Pete.. Yeah I'm enjoying the new place, although it is hard getting used to all this sunlight.. My old place was a dungeon..

joro - thanks for checking it out joro! If your curious, this is what I used http://www.musiciansbuy.com/roland_xv-2020_synthesizer_module.htm

Lt. Bob - hey Steve, I have to expain something.. People here are often referring to me as "sammi." My name is Sam, or Sammy (Samuel).. :D I think having the 'I' at the end makes it sound like a girls name.. I made a mistake when I used the name 'samij.' It was something I made up and later realized I should have spelled it 'samage.' :D O.k., that being said, thanks for checking it out man.. :D IT's good to be back..

Khompewtur - dude, I knew what you meant! :D thanks!!

chrisharris - thanks chris.. I never play my tunes around kids.. I think they deserve a fair shot at life! :D

mixmkr - now were even! :D ha!

freshears - thanks David! Yeah this mix could be better.. Sorry to hear it's so dry over there.. Too bad you didn't live closer.. I could hook you up! :D

flat-9 - I'm almost embaressed to have a player like your self even hear this thing.. I very much agree with your post.. thanks Mr.9!

Jamal Bucket - thansk JB! If you do get an Ebow, make sure you check out the new one.. I have no idea what it adds, but it's newer than the classic one that I have.. I may have to get another..

Kramer - hey Kramer, the new place is nice and sunny! I finally have some windows.. :D I had no idea it was so bright out here.. My previous place really was a hell hole.. Yeah I have to check out that new EBow.. I'm not sure what they added, but I want one anyway.. Since you have hardware sound modules now, you can use Fruity Loops or something similar to program.. Fruity makes it VERY easy to program.. Just hook up a midi out wire from the computer and go into the module.. So far I have been happy with the results, bit I haven't done a normal song with the new setup.. Yeah I'm recording at home, but I'll probably do vocals somewhere else.. I'll just bring my recorder and a mic to the rehearsal studio so I can belt it out.. The owner gives me the room cheap since I'm not using any of his equipment.. thanks for checking it out Krame!!

skids - thanks man.. Yeah I agree it would need more to be a real song.. It was more of a jam although it doesn't sound like it.. I had this finished by the time I checked out the Orpheus tune.. :D

participant - CHAD!!!!!!!! Wasup man! Great to see your name around these parts.. Now all you need to do is post a tune! I have an idea, remember that collab? :D I'll get back to the heavier tunes again soon.. I just needed to get a few of these out of my system..
The music kind of exists not to be understood, or something... maybe how Sam feels...

Yeah man, that sums it up quite nicely.. thanks! Good to see you around my friend.. Now stay around!

:D

Don't make me have to bump one of your earlier threads because I'll do it! :D

thanks again everyone.. I have a new little thing that I'll be posting in the next few days, so we can let this thread fade into oblivion..

thanks again to all who bothered! :)

Great noodling Sam!!! EZ Listening huh??? Mix sounds good but maybe just a bit bass heavy.

Sam/Sami/Samuel, you're way off base here. This isn't easy or cheesy. This is just beautiful. That bit of piano at the beginning reminds me of my favorite track on Infrared Roses by the Dead. If I'd played that keyboard, I'd be proud. If I'd written the whole thing and arranged it, I'd be prouder.

You wanna go back and stroke up your big ol' mean guitar and make a bit of noise on the next one, that's okay with me, you're good at that. But this one's *interesting*.

Ace, ace fucking tune.

This is the third day in a row I've tried to download this. I was getting half a kb before today. Glad I persevered.

I love that tabla thing you got going on there too. I don't believe you played it. No way.

All is forgiven. LOL

Few familiar Sam moments. This sounds like a different kind of song from you. Your stuff sounds different anyway, but this even more :D The mix is spacious. I'd like to hear more delay and/or reverb on the e-bow solo, but that might just be me. The song needs some direction. It's kinda hanging around and making a great mood. I think I'd enjoy it more if it progressed more and went on to new adventures or something :D

That was the first impression...

On second listen, I'd say this could work well on a CD. Like a bridge between two songs or someting like that. There's many possibilities. Like stretching this to a 37 minute epic and calling it "Smash Potatoes" <=== I don't know where the hell that came from :D
