Export Issues

No, I'm not talking about national exports or anything.

I completed a project awhile ago. It had lots of tracks. Probably 20 or so. And I hit the mixdown button because I wanted to shoot it all together into one wav file.

It would tick.. 1%... 2%... 3%...

and stop.

Eventually, Cubase would crash my computer.

THE WEIRD THING:

Sometimes it would work fine.

Does Cubase just need more Wheaties in the morning or am I doing something wrong?

needs more wheaties... definitely..
you could also try and make Cool Edit Pro or similar record it.. i allways do, cause cubase seems to be really buggy about the recording thingy...

i had that problem with my old computer. once upgraded it cubase ran fine. what type of system are you running...

AMD 1.4 ghz, 256 ram, 7200 rpm IDE HD.

Shouldn't be an equipment problem! That's why I'm bummed.

pretty odd.

I have 1 ghz PIII, export works fine here.. do whatever you can to optimize your system itself.

1. What OS are you running? I use Win2000. Works great, cept for the odd random crash, but as far as stability goes it's the best I've seen, for Windows anyways.

2. Get FreeMem Pro if you don't have it.. makes sure that your system is always freeing up whatever RAM is available.

3. Make sure your unnecessary apps are closed.

4. Make your Windows SWAP file a fixed size. That is, the min and max settings are the same. I have the same RAM as you, 256.. I set my swap file at 400 mb.. Cause well, I have 50 gigs of HD. Anyways this will keep your system from slowing down too much while changes are made to that file..

5. 20 tracks at once should be ok but do you have them all loaded with FX/EQ's/VST instruments? Even a 1.4 ghz with 256 ram has its limits. make sure you don't have more going on than you need to.
