Just finished this one up. It's about a guy I know that's having a pretty rough time in life. I let him hear it but didn't tell him it's about him. :D

Everything is Broken

Any mix critiques are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg.

Dumb lyrics:

Broken heart, broken dreams
Broken car, Broken screams
Broken gun, Broken plan
Broken pride, Broken man

Everything I touch, it turns to shit
King Midas ain't got nuthin on me
A beautiful world, I ruin it
It just wasn't meant to be

Oh no

Broken bones, broken grace
Broken nose, broken face
Broken promise, broken start
Broken windows, broken heart

Everything I touch, it turns to shit
King Midas ain't got nuthin on me
A beautiful world, I ruin it
It just wasn't meant to be

Oh no
It's broken

Everything is broken
I don't know what to do
Eveything is broken
What am I supposed to do?

Love the intro, this is probbably one the coolest tunes you've done IMO:)

I'd like a more agressive vox on the verses, more screamo.

Damn that reapearing intro is the shit, damn cool.

I have no nits on the recording, sounds very good and clean productionwise.

Just put some more energy to those vox:mad::D

Thanks Nak. Something is fucked up with the file. Gonna re-post.

Top skills as usual Greg. You've got this kind of music well and truly covered and zeroed. First thought before I listened...thought you were covering the Bob Dylan song! Anyhoo...excellent job. You must have enough songs for a quality triple album.

When are you doing the Pistols' No Feelings??

:D

Really good track man. Way beyond Turdtastic!
Thanks dude. :)

Haha, that is my favorite Pistols song. I aint covering it though.

Thanks man. I'm not familiar with the Dylan song, but I'm gonna sue his ass if it's similar! :D

Worked fine for me, was it audible stuff, or just a file error.
Sounded cleancut to me:confused:

There was a guitar scratch track in there that I didn't want. I didn't notice it at first because it was low in the mix, but near the end it reared it's ugly head.

Turdtastic? Bombtastic!!

That was like punk rock for the real musician - nice chord tension in some spots. The guitar tone was very good. Vocals were great; just a little more pissed off would really 'blow my skirt up'! :D I don't have the vox chops to do it, but if you could....

Nothing poked me in the ear, so I have no real mix advice. Did you use much compression on this track? It almost seems too real or live compared to commercial tracks. I'm just throwing that out there...I'm not sure.

Thanks for sharing, that was fun!

Another signature tune, bro. At the beginning, the snare seemed low in the mix, as soon as I heard it pop later on, my ears tuned into it, and it seemed fine. Not sure if that's a problem with my ears, or with the snare. Might be a bit too low.

Also - I've been tinkering with all sorts of different overhead patterns, and as you sometimes complain about your cymbals being "washy", I've found that if I use the recorderman technique, mine become a bit washy too... The cure for me has been to simply raise my overheads a couple of feet, making sure both overheads are equal distance from snare/kick. The result is the same stereo image, while being a bit more spacious, and cymbals that aren't washy at all.

Just thought I'd share.

Great tune!

Thanks dude. I don't know about the vocals. They are what they are. :o

I don't use much compression on anything. I guess "too real" is a good thing? :D I use compression to tame some of the craziness. The guitars and bass get no compression. The drums get very little - just enough to give em a little more punch. The vocals get it the worst.

Thanks. I've done the same on the past few songs. Now that my room is even more treated, I jacked the overheads up about another foot or so and it calmed the cymbals down some. My cymbals are crazy loud anyway. 2002s and a RUDE. This is not a good room for those beasts.

I think I agree about the snare. It needs to be louder.

Too real IS a good thing, I agree! There's real give-n-take going on. The unfortunate part is that with all the compression in most commercial tracks; not hearing ultra compression tends to make a track stand out as a "home recording." ...And that might be a good thing too...

BTW- Do you have more songs I can hear on lightningmp3 or somewhere other than the reverbation thing? I'd llike to hear more of your stuff, but that reverb.. page won't open here at work :)

Thanks dude. :)

Oh I see, I was listening at some cheapo speakers at work, sounded like sweet fuzz noise to me:D

Now, throw some more balls behind the Verse vox, you have it in you. Yoda Told me:drunk:

Goddammit, that's some superb drumming right there......:D
You might think the lyrics are dumb when you just read them, but in the context of the song they fit perfectly and don't sound one bit dumb. The sound is marvellous and your performance rightout excellent. Nothing, absolutely nothing to nit about. Another 10 Points, Greg!

Joey :):):):)

Suggest lyric change:

Broken promise, broken start
Broken windows: broke a fart.

effin' great, as usual. Hate you.:D

The reverbnation page is the only page I got. I have a soundclick page, but I don't keep any originals on there. I don't keep my originals up for long anyway. I have an album coming out in the next few weeks. I'm thinking around mid May. If you ever get a chance, sign up for my mailing list at the reverbnation page in my sig and I'll keep ya updated.

Thanks bro. I think I'm getting better at making dumb lyrics work. :D

Damn, that's genius. :D

Thanks for the hate. :D

turdilicious!

I loved the intro and the ending. A whole song at that pace with that feel by you would be cool to hear. I knew you were going to hit hyperdrive sooner or later at which point it became more familiar to me as one of your songs. I really like the guitar/bass interaction at the beginning and end though.

The main faster section of the song definitely led to some jaw dropping drum moments. This is the most insane performance I can remember hearing from you. I also liked the fact that you returned to the fast riff right at the end. Cool composition...very nice work :).

Thanks dude. I've been really enjoying doing songs with some time changes. It's not even really a time change. The BPM stays the same, I just go in and out of double time and maybe tickle some quadruple time here and there. :D
