If you were to choose Event monitors for a small room studio, what would you pick?

The Event SP 6 or The Event SP 8. [Both are actives]

I use 8" KRKs and like them. Just want to move up a bit and give myself a nice birthday present.

Thank you for your input.

Happy Boit-day brutha'! Go with the 8's! Much tighter sound! Now, are you coming to the "6TH ANN HR.COM JAM/RECORDING/BBQ/BEER FEST !!" in Andover,Connecticut August 11-13th? :) :) :)

This is the 6th year in a row i'm asking you this! :)

asp6

b/c I have them. I used to use the v-8s and hr824. In a small room those 8" woofers sound too boomy. I like a tighter woofer. It gives you a better picture of what is going on with the low-end.

:D Yo double "Q" and Pappy too!

Thanks for the advice. I kind of lean toward the 8s. Been using 8s by KRK and they don't boom much in the bass in my studio room.

QQ= WOW! Six years we've been batting around gear on the BBS. Amazing how time slips by.

Don't know if I can get away in August but will keep it in mind. BTW: I've been shopping around for a small platform to raise my speakers up a bit. I've got them on 3" standard wooden stands but it was a bit too close to the carpeted deck. So, after many searches, I got a catalog one day and there they were. Plastic folding "one-steps." Can hold 300 pounds and are a bit over a foot high--just what I wanted and only 12 dollars each. What color you say? They are compact and fit just fine in my set-up.

GREEN of course. :D

Hey Hornet of ecologically-sound shading,

Sonusman / Ed Rei / Mosfet / UB802 / Ford Van will tell you that the way to go is the passive (he doesn't like the active) 20/20s and pair them with something like a 2nd-hand Hafler amp. That's been his setup for like the last eight years.

I tend to think he knows his stuff to be honest, although it does like Event's whole range is of a very high quality.

:D Hey mellifluous Dude:]

Thanks for the information. I've always used passives and thought it might be time to try a pair of actives. However, those folks you mentioned certainly know their stuff.

I can get the passive 8s for around 444 dollars for the pair. I've been running my monitors and second set of commercial speakers, [Infinities] right from my integrated Sony amplifier--plenty of LOUD which is around 100 watts per speaker, give or take a few Holmes! [good old Sherlock]

Do you know why Sonusman and the others prefer the passives? Maybe the actives are too harsh/on/the/ears? I do spend hours mixing to "get it right."

Is it Spring yet in England. Not yet here in the Colonies, mid-Michigan squire-doms.

Cheers and Thanks,

Green Hornet  :D

All of those people are the same person!!! It's all Sonusman's alter egos!!

I dunno, he just seems to think they're trustworthy across the range. I think he thought the actives ones were a little honky or something, but he has high standards (refuses to use Genelecs because it's too easy to get a flattering sound from them).

It's kinda getting towards Spring here, the sun came out today and I didn't wear a coat to work. Glad to hear all is calm in the Colonies.

Any way you can get a listen to any of these monitors in a shop somewhere?

Nik

Yo Nik:

I'm buying these monitors without hearing them. I have a GOOD vendor at Full Compass and if something is not right, they will make it right.

I was wrong on the price--afternoon cocktail hour.

I got the pair for 600 pezzuos--no shipping charge.

Cheers,

Green Hornet :D

I went with the Event ASP8s. But I also picked up some bass traps. Things are good. My room is 11x12, I think, or 11x10. I don't remember exactly now.

I know what you mean about the years at this BBS. I started here in 99 and have watched the place age. Still a great spot to get information.

You will love the Events.

I don't have much to judge by but my Event TR-6's have treated me very well in my small room.

:D Yo Middleman:

I think some day I'll get a pair of actives. Thanks for the info on the Event's quality. I'm looking forward to plugging them into my set-up.

The info on this forum is, as you say, the best.

Cheers,
