Your preferred drum heads?

I personally love the tone and sustain of Remos, and can't seem to get much response from Evans at all - what do you guys think?

I most pledge allegience to Remo, by default only :-) I have only used Evans one time... it was my snare head and I was in a pinch to buy a head... it did it jobs very well, just as good as Remo (or any other head I have used)... But, i feel Remo's are better... maybe they have a better selection, maybe a better head, maybe a better ad campaign, or maybe just because that is the head I grew up using :-) anyhoo.. i dig both Evans and Remo, but I usually buy Remos :-)

I think you're a complete moron who started with a set of Hydraulics, then switched to a set of Ambassadors and thought "Huh?!? Wow...Remo is like waaayyyy better than Evans...dude"

Fuckin' tool.

Between the Emad kick, The Genera HD dry snare heads and the G2 toms, it's the best drum sound I've had. If I need really dead sounding toms (not in a bad way, just no ring) I will still put pinstripes on.

Evans. Wanna know why? They did thier research... Seriously. I learned some things about them today..
For example... all Evans 2-ply heads have a vent in the top-head, near the collar, where air can enter and exit between the two heads. This allows the heads to breathe instead of causing negative or positive air pressure between the two heads and causing them not to resonate correctly. Also, when the mylar is cut, it takes an electric charge. This is the coloration you see between 2-ply heads such as pinstripes. Evans takes the time to discharge the heads before they are sent out. ALSO Evans has a lifetime garuntee on the collar of ALL thier heads. If manage to separate the mylar from the metal collar, they will replace the head FOR FREE. Yeah. Honestly, I used to be a remo guy. I have pinstripes on my kit right now and after learning what I learned about Evans today, I'm sold......

Evans

They tune easily, last a long time and sound great on my DWs. The coated G2s cut the resonance just enough. Great for recording with, no muffling needed. Plus the glue doesn't pop loose. ;)

remo pinstripes because im just a hack and thats what i always buy.

Remo.

I've gone through damn near every company and head type and I keep coming back to straight Ambassadors. Although I am considering a temp switch from clear to coated.

evans. emad, and emad reso are great.

hydraulics, all though some dont like them, work excellent on my drums, vistalites. they suck on wood drums i think, but becuase the acrylic shells resonate so much, they work well. using G2 reso's underneath..

the snare is a different story, i cant get it right. using a ludwig weather master, and ludwig reso right now, but im looking to change it up. any thoughts for me?

I'm a hybrid at the moment. Got Evans Power Center Reverse Dot and Hazy 300's on the snare, Evans EQ3 Clear batter and EQ4 Clear resonant on the kick, and Remo Ebony Pinstripe batters and Evans G1 Clear resonants on the toms. Lets me get the best of everything I want :)

I prefer the Evans dry vent over the coated Remo Ambassador and I prefer the Evans G2 to Remo Pinstripe and I prefer Evans Emad or any of the EQ series over any Remo kick head. - So I guess I vote Evans.

I would never bash Remo as I used Remo for about 30 years before changing to Evans - and I still think a set of brushes sounds best on a coated Ambassador.

Actually I think Aquarian had the best heads, but the distribution is weak an you can depend on them being avaiable in local stores.

I use Evans on my snare and toms (Genera Snare, G1 coated toms) and I have an Aquarian Super Kick II on the kick. Really, brand doesn't mean much to me. I have an old Supraphonic with a coated emperor and it sounds great. Use what ever works.

I voted other.

I like Aquarian Studio-X on toms.

But for the snare I go with a Evens Dry vented head most of the time

Those sound really good when they are new, but they go to shit very quickly. (for the tom sounds that I tend to go for)

I use evans genera dry on my snare and clear g2's for my toms because they actually have some tone and sustain to them. I use a remo powerstroke with remo kevlar patches on my kick just cuz I do a lot of double bass and it can take a beating.

I've been using Pinstripes for years - clear on the toms and kick, frosted on the snare. They work well with my melodic toms. Just ask anyone that was at JamFest!

Mad what do you use for heads on the bottom of your toms... :D :D :D :D :D

i would have to say evans. i put the g2's on my toms and they sound amazing, now my toms are really small but they are cutting and bright and just oh my god, thats how i can explain it. i put the genera dry on my metal snare and that just sounds great, a nice crack but not like a marching snare, how a drumset snare should be. so i would definatly go evans.

Right now I have remo fiberskyns on everything, but I play mostly acoustic stuff. I have yet to try any evans heads.

I have Evans on my snare and Aquarian Performance on all my toms...

:)
