quoted from bruce:
"I think generally, the people that seem to get pissed the most are the ones who lack confidence in their own abilities and overcompensate by becoming defensive at having their "limitations" challenged.... "
first of let me say, i wasnt pissed, i was just trying to express how your answer really did not help me. you need a little insight when you try to help someone, (think of both sides of the situation) and i apologize for not necessarily making my situation clearer, but i thought i did by stating "100-200" dollar range.
second, because some one is pissed does not mean he has lack of ability. generally i agree, i think people who are arogant use thier arogance to faslely express to others who they are; usually they are the ones with lack of confindence, and because they do not know alot, they use thier boasting to boost thier confidence. on the flip side however, some people do not lack ability, but boast to boost thier confidence because they are not humble, this is just as bad.
if i were to act cocky to my friends because i own a bmw and act like i knew everything and like i was better than them because i know more, thats bullshit and my friends would not like me too much and probably would not ask me for advice or help even if i did know everything!
i think if you lend your knowledge to others and explain "why", someone may realize thier mistake. most people do not like to accept thier mistakes, however, people make mistakes all the time, and if we critisized everyone, we would be hipocritical and we would get no where.
you use your experience and knowledge to help others, not to use it to boast and act arrogant, thats selfish.
im sure you learned your knowledge from many other people, sometimes, you even learn it from the least expected places, and most of all, i think you learn from helping others(both stupid and smart); because you realize your mistakes, and try to help someone not make the samemistake.
wheter someone thinks they know everything, they dont.

"There are many transient posters at this BBS who post crap just to validate their own skills or even gear purchases and are severely disappointed when told the opposite of what they held to be "the truth." When they're called on their nonsense, they usually run with their tail between their legs.... and we don't see them anymore... "
of course the transient posters(boasters) should not post, but even so, if they did not post, they may have not learned thier mistake.
the purpose for posting is to ask stupid questions. the stupid ones need the most help.
if you do not answer questions to help someone, then you are just posting to boast of your own knowledge, and validate your own skills. if you answer questions and they are of absolutely no help, then they can be construed as boasting. help must be practical, otherwise it is bullshit, this is because help only works if it is practical; sometimes we have to make do with what we have, sometimes this is the only route, i do not think we can be critisized for this, and yes, there is more than one solution to just about every situation.
think of communism, in theory, it sounds extremely good, however, in practical sense, its bullshit because it creates more bad things then good.
sometimes we as posters need to also create hypothetical situations to learn more. i do not think all transient posters are boasting or lieing, they just need insight for possible situations.
i do not think any post is necessarily nonsense either. sometimes we do things we dont even realize we are doing. often times i have posted stuff, and ive realized the answer as soon as i posted it. i do not mind when it is pointed out, because i will better remember to not make the same mistake.

It doesn't matter -- I will continue to post as I post and let people who have a problem with it deal with it themselves......... they'll either learn something from my posts and eventually realize, "hey, that dude was right...", or they learn nothing and continue blundering about!!
thats bullshit, obviously you are posting then to boast about your own knowledge, and your own equipment. if you really want to post, it should be because you really want to help someone and because you want to help yourself because you dont know everything. this is hypocrytical to your first two statements.
sometimes it takes more to realize things than one stupid post. personally i learned alot from my initial post, tex helped me the most because he responed practically. you have to try to imaging yourself in someones shoes, even though you might have been right about a good eq. i was right in that i use cheap ones for thier sound, which i happen to like. are we both right? are we both wrong? we should use a situation like this to realize the mistakes we did make, and to understand that to better help someone, we have to try and understand thier situation and both sides of the story, and leave out theoretical type of solutions, this will inturn, help ourselves!
theoretically, if i bought a studio, i would not have to worry about recording my guitar and getting nice body to it. but you know what? i would still have to post and ask questions, regardless of what equipment i have, because i dont know everything; and for me to learn anything, i also need to understand why something is, not just "because it is" or "im right and your wrong", thats not help, thats penislickingcuntsuckerbullshit.
peace.
