i went to my local music store yesterday n there was a shure drum mic kit. i was chatting to the guy about how good they wer etc, n then we went opn to the desk.. i dont currently own any equipment, although i do know how to use it etc. he was saying that it is probably vital to have a parametric eq on the desk to bring out the best in the mics rather than jus a 3 band eq. now, as im planning on using software, if that had a parametric eq within it, would there be need for the parametric eq on the desk, cuz that would knock up the $! basically, if the software im using has a parametric EQ in it, is there any need to hqave Para. EQ on the desk aswel? replies appreciated in advance!
steve

Nah, if your software has parametrics on each channel you'll be all set. "Vital"- that's funny. He was right, but vital is a funny way to describe it.

ive tried it both ways, track dry and eq in the box, or eqing through a console on the way in. allthough one is better than the other IMO they both will work fine.
youre all set for the moment.

haha, cheers guys, at least now i know that i can save some money, cuz i got all the software already for free so its all good. thanks for the help,
steve

Wow, I didn't know digi was doing that. Stienberg tried that (and, yes, I have the dongle), but it didn't do a damn thing to stop piracy. I wonder if Digi will have any better luck, or is it already broken as well?

Well, let's not jump to conclusions - Maybe he's using one of the freeware systems like Kristal or something. Maybe...

not jumping to conclusions, but

Maybe we should adopt a bad advice for pirates rule. Like para EQ is mainly used to find the 'sweet' frequency and boost it +18dB; the B52 is best used inside the kick aimed out the hole; the 57 should be placed parallel with the drum head of the toms; the 57s should be used as quadrophonic overheads; you know, stuff like that.

Only problem is the innocent lurking victims

Maybe if we typed stuff like "pUt teh Mikez iNTo teh ImpUtz" people would get the picture.

I hope so. After taking the time to respond (which I love to do- it's very satisfying being able to help) if I found out he pirated his SW I feel my time has been wasted and won't mind following him around the board for awhile for my pound of electronic flesh.

boost +18 db
imputz

hee hee :)
