Epiphone SG special

Has anyone here played one of these? how did you like it?
 
yes i played one...at Mars Music in Cincy

and...it was a POS. I felt like I was going to snap the neck off. It wouldnt stay in tune. It fed back very easily.

PS- I'm not an Epiphone hater. In my small collection of 15 guitars, 3 of those are Epi's. This one, though, is one to stay away from.

Im with H2H, don't get anywere near that mother. I have played two, one in a store and another one at a friends house. trust me on this: SPEND SOME MONEY AND GET SOMETHING YOU WON'T HATE IN A YEAR. If you buy cheap that is what you get, cheap. I have learned this the hard way several times. Realy though, you will save so much money in the long run if you just spend a bunch now instead of upgrading every year.
 
Oh yeah, my friend swears by his epi SG special. He also swears his 15 watt crate practice amp has better tone than my fender Hot Rod Deluxe. And that his Zoom 505 REALY does sound better than my pedal board filled with nothing but Boss pedals and a Crybaby............
Go Figure.
 
i'm thinking 'bout buying the les paul standard... any comments? (pick-up will be replaced)

I bought a Epi LP Std, and put in PRS pickups. It is a great guitar now. I've been playing it for about 4 years, and use it more than my Gibson LP equivilant.

didn't think that it would matter much when replacing the pick-ups but then again you never know.

I myself think that it would be fine to get the Epi, but according to many thigns I've read on this board and other palces Epiphones quality control is really lax. Just check everythign you can out before buying it. If they'll let you, I'd see if I could take it to a luthier and have them check it out. See if they'll have it sent out to be set up and intonated before you buy it. That way you'll know how the guitar will play when it's at it's best.

I was kind of considering one of these a little while back and changed my mind. The main thing that made me change my mind was the reviews I read at Harmony Central. A few people liked then, but most thought they were a piece of junk.

But the final choice has to be yours. Go play with it. If it feels good, do it. If it doen't feel good, put it away.
