Hi to all !

I need some feedback if any of you have an Epiphone (Lespaul) and / or a Squier (Strat).

I already have an old Sonex-180 (1981) from Gibson which i modified the pickups and also an acoustic Guild. I want to "upgrade" my electric gear.

I'm interested in a Lespaul and a Strat but paying $1500.00 to $3000.00 is not justified for my needs (hobbying home studio and couple of gigs). So, i'm looking for a "downgraded" version of these, known as Epiphone Lespaul and Squier Stratocaster.

What i know is that they are manufactured overseas (cheaplabor), wood used are not the same quality, etc...

Knowing that, i need to know your experiences with these.

Thank you for advices.

well I do own a '96 Squier Strat..standard, not the affinity...and honestly, I can't find a strat that plays as nice as her! the neck just feels amazing, and I'm so used to it....if only the bridge didn't suck and whatnot, but it doesn't come out of tune TOO bad, I replaced my tuners with fender locking ones..she plays great, but maybe it's just because she's from 96 too, and I can't find one from now a days that plays good either...and i've played some $500 epi les pauls, they play nice, like a les paul should, i just went iwth my 89 USa strat instead ;)

I think you should just go ahead and try out the guitars you want, be it an Epiphone or a Squier. Ive played some great squiers and Epiphones and was totally shocked by how great they play. Dont judge the book by its cover!

Sorry I didnt really answer your question, but good luck.

Matt

Thanks for the advices.

I should go to the store and try some.

The things i have a concerns is the ability to stay in tune...

So I'll see

Thanks guy.

With Fender Standard Strats going for ~$350 @ Musicians Friend, I don't see why you couldn't just get the real thing.

You didn't mention a budget, but it's not that much more than a Squire, and it's quite a bit less than $1000. :)

I have to compare the prices ... i live in Canada...

Thanks

I play an Epiphone Les Paul, and I LOVE it!

Go to the music store and play some guitars. I dont get into the whole "Name brand" shit. 2 things to keep in mind when getting a new guitar.

How does it play?

and -

How does it sound?

Hi Musart,

Thought I'd just throw in the suggestion that you MIGHT consider holding off until you can afford a real long term keeper like a US Fender Strat or real Gibson.

Over the years I have found that generally I wish that I had saved my money and bought something that I want to keep forever rather than be unsatisfied sometime later...there is something inspiring with real Strats and Les Pauls.

Another thing I've learned is that there are some good values in the used market. Consider used, but look locally in Montreal - you'll get a better deal than on Ebay or on-line.

Having said all this, I used to own a Jap Squier Strat which was very nice (before it was stolen) but not as nice as my US Deluxe Strat Plus by a long-shot. A friend of mine plays an EPI Sheraton which I quite like also...

PRS

PRS Tremonti SE, $368 w/ tax and gig-bag. Much better than both Epiphone & Squire, both of which I have owned in the past. You can get a real guitar for little more than Squire pricetag. Just my honest opinion.

I'm considering this since a couple of hour... :-)

Imalion...1 more thing.

How does it feel? Very important. I was recently at Center looking for a decent A/E for about $400. I found nothing that I really liked. Just as I was leaving, I noticed an Ovation in that price range. I never cared for them but said, what the heck. As soon as I piciked it up, It felt like heaven in my hands. It sounded great and stayed in tune and it's my main box for recording now. Its true...don't judge a
book by the cover.
