Gone
Just picked one of these cards up tonight for real cheap. It's not the infamous PCI128, but it's rated similar (little worse).

I tell ya what. With my old SB16 my noise floor sat at around -45db in n-Track's Recording VU Meter. The noise level on the new card doesn't even register on the VU meter which cuts off at around -65db.

Of course the AD converters and whatnot are still cheapo like you'll find on just about any standard PC soundcard, but it's a big improvement over my old soundblaster.

If you're using an old or just plain cheapo audio card and your noise floor is annoyingly high, look for the Soundblaster PCI128 or the Ensoniq/Creative Labs AudioPCI. They can be picked up in the 20 dollar range so it won't destroy your pocketbook while you save your pennies for a nice 24/96 card.

I'm certainly looking forward to less static in my recordings, and a wider dynamic range.

Hey Slack, before I got my Live! I bought one of those Ensoniq Audio PCIs for recording - you'll dig it more than the SB16 for sure!
