A keyboard player that helps me with projects got one of the new Yamaha 88 weighted boards.

The sounds are awesome in it.

The only issue with it is the electronic noise out the L/R main outputs.

I would like to go direct out to the board not thru an amp/

How have you dealt with this situation.

If it's new I wouldn't think there should be any noise, or at least it would be extrememly minimal.

1 - Try to determine if the noise is being generated by the keyboard or induced by an external source; turn of things like CRT monitors, flourescent lights, televisions, radios, etc.

2 - Does the keyboard have SPDIF outs? Try using them.

3 - If the noise is higher than you think it should be, think about returning the unit, or at least go to the store and see if other units have the same problem.

I'll admit I don't know what level of noise from a keyboard analog output is acceptable.

What do you mean by "direct out to the board"?
A mixer?
If it's a new keyboard there should be no noise. Have you tried different amps or speakers?

You might want to pay attention to gain staging. On some keyboards, craking up the volume all the way is not really a good idea, as the noise level rises. You might want to try to have the volume about 2/3 to 3/4 way up, and then fiddle with the gain controls on your mixer/soundcard to get an acceptable level.

Which Yamaha board is this? The Motif has S/PDIF and AES/EBU outs (optional on Motif ES I think). So, if you have digital connection options I'd try these. Also, if this is the Motif, then use balanced cables.

Mine doesn't have those!

Are those factory presets or do I have to buy an expansion board?

And where can I find this expansion board?

Is this one of those ones with the speakers onboard and a large LDC screen?
I borrowed one from a friend once years ago and it had the same problem. It sounded like radio interference. We could block it mostly with a sheild of tinfoil over the back of it.

I would take it back immediately.
