Easy connectivity to a PC?

Hi guys and gals:

Please excuse the possible stupidity of this question, but do any low-priced (sub $1000 US) digital recording workstations offer easy hardwired connectivity to a PC? Right now, I'm auditioning a BOSS BR-8, and it really is not easy to move files to my computer.

Thanks in advance.

I'm Curious Yellow as well

I'd like the scoop on this as well. To date my method has been to essentially "record" my finished songs to PC by playing the BR-8 and mixing the 8 tracks via the faders down to stereo as the music is transfered to the PC via the Analog RCA jacks to my laptop. I'm using a cable with 2 RCA jacks to 1 mini-phono plug.

I'm thinking this has got to be the worst sound quality way to perform this task. I've noticed there are now adaptors that can convert the digital to usb.

If I use the "fiber" jack on the back of the BR-8 into the USB port on my laptop am I maintaining a true digital format? I still have to mix it live, but will my sound quality be higher? Inquiring minds...
Edirol makes the gadget for about $80, is it the way to go? :D :(

If you get a Roland unit with the RBUS port you can get a Delta RBUS card that allows you to digitally transfer 8 channels back and forth.

There is also ADAT LightPipe, and a few others I cant remember. Each brand has their own multi-track transfer format.

Get a Zip drive for $40 bucks, and download the free .wav converter here and be on your merry way.

Anybody who tells you the .wav converter sucks doesn't know how to use it, because I get great results by using it.

I didn't know that existed, Polaris. I have a 2480, so it isn't an issue for me, but it seems like they should have that program for all of the VS machines, it would help out a lot of people.

How much easier could it be to transfer music from the BR-8 to a PC?...... Digital out of the BR-8 to the digital in of your sound card.
It works great. keeping it all digital. Or you can do the USB thing too...

If you are talking about getting each individual track seperately into your PC, than why bother using the BR-8 at all?..... You should just get Cakewalk HS 2002 and do all your recording throgh Cakewalk.

Good luck.

there's no way to do it with USB, there's no port on the BR8.
