each day, the front page has 90% of the threads started with names I've never seen!!

I'm one of those guys who don't visit the other forums much(or this one either lately, there's a war going on!)

Just seems like everyone is always fighting about something.

Start's out with a ligitimate question, and the next thing you know, everybodys arguing.

Either that,or you take the time to respond and get ignored.
At least here, comments and suggestions are generally appreciated.
My precious little time is too valuable to waste.
I'd rather be recording.:D

I'm here for fun,and to better my recording skills.
At least in the clinic, everyone's friendly and helpful.

I think the reason is,the people who post here are serious musicians.
They love it,and love doing it.
And it shows in the attitude's here.
This is where you put your money where your mouth is.

I'm all for newbie's,anyone that's into music and recording is o.k. by me.
And I don't think Mix was putting anyone down, just making an observation.
I was wondering what was going on around here myself.

i like music.....even from people i dont know yet....yep ..I LIKES ME SOME MUSIC......

It will probably thin out as the weather gets better and people go outside.
I have to admit I've been in a rush to post new songs.
Making up for lost time :)

My $.025

I am a noob here. This place is freaing awesome! I have already learned more about recording than I had known in my entire life before joining here and that was only a couple of months ago now.

It is very hard to keep up. In fact I haven't been able to. I have had to pick and choose what I listen to. I try to listen to at least 2 or 3 songs when I visit each evening. More if I have time. Sometimes I'll go on a spurt :D. I try to listen to folks that have helped me out as well as new folks. I will ususally alternate. Besides I love hearing all the different styles. :D

I don't think imposing restrictions is the answer. It makes it a less freindly place to post your work. You guys have rocked IMHO with listening and giving feedback. Most of you are much further along with your recording abilities than I am and I appreciate hearing both feedback and the little ego booster compliments as well. I have know message boards to go through cycles. Sometimes it's just nuts and sometimes it slows down. I think that's natural. Right now it's just nuts. :D I think the folks that contribute will get taken care of naturally and the hit & runners will thin out.

I can't WAIT until I've got time to do some critiques again... I think I did about 100 in a week a while back...

thank you Pete. those were my feelings exactly. Actually, newbie stuff tends to offer more excitement and something new....but I do have some regular favs...that's for sure.

It's sure been a big change. It's a little different not knowing what you're going to get. I was just starting to figure out various members styles and such...It is a drag how quick stuff moves down the page, I'm sure I'm missing tunes. I think it may be a bigger drag to try and evolve a system of some sort tho unless it's really needed.

After all this forum is a lot like education (actually it is education...). There is a wealth of knowledge to be gained but in many instances the rich (veteran members) get richer and the poor (those mesely beginners like myself) get poorer. I understand the disdain with recurring themes and topics that have been covered for years but in my experience I just don't understand some issues based off of the discussions because truth be told, there still needs to be some form of prior understanding in place. So it is almost necessary to ask those dreadful questions again and again. I understand that to benefit from this site, newcomers must be patient, but I think as is the case with any good working relationship, the same is required from the other side of the wall, those older memebers who were helped and are now in a position to help.

Brian--I can't speak for anyone but myself, but my sense of the forum is that people try to be helpful in their replies. It doesn't matter if its a veteran or a newbie--the replies will have the same honesty of content. The older members who are in a position to help DO help.

I have written extensive PM's to folks who asked for specific help. If anybody wants to know how I did something, I always reply to the questions. Vice versa, I have been helped a LOT by others here.

The current influx in the clinic perhaps creates a problem--the regulars here want to respond to everything they can, but ther sheer number of posts makes it impossible to do so. If I were to listen and critique 10 songs a day here, I'd have to spend 4 to 5 hours a day doing it. (I have to listen, think, take occasional notes and try to come up with a worthwhile reply for each tune.) Thats not realistic for me to do 10 times a day. I feel bad because, at the moment, I can't even get to all the old timers, who I consider friends. 16 hour days will do that to you, I guess.:D

The best bet for getting listened to is to apply the rule of: do unto others. It works and everybody who gets lots of listens here has also listened to tons of other folks.

I think you can get help here. We are all rooting for each other to get better. Theres a certain sense of pride in seeing someone else grow and get better and thats the spirit of this place, I think. Welcome to the clinic!

The only problem is if you are a newcomer, how do you know where to begin if you have absolutely no prior recording knowledge outside of your musical experience? And for many that only comes from posting your music to receive feedback.

Hey B-Mo...

One of my first critiques was on a mixmkr song. I thought, "what could I possibly tell this guy that could be useful to him?" So I prefaced my post by saying something like, "You probably don't want to take this advice because it's stupid..." But mix thanked me and responded essentially by saying that everyone gets an opinion - so don't hesitate to offer yours.

Everyone can tell what they like and what they don't like. If that's what you can offer given your level of experience, then please offer it. Everyone gets an opinion.

But that's part of the fun of messageboards, IMHO. As long as no one takes it too seriously or personally, arguing can be good fun. C'mon, you're not really hurting people by saying you don't like fake drums or autotuners...music is not that important :)

O shit, I'm arguing already! LOL :D

All things considered this is what I try to do. And as I stated, I know that there are some individuals who have selfish motives for posting.

I had been watching this forum and others for three months before I decided to join. Why? Because I knew that "to whom much is given, much is required..." That said, I started out my involvement commenting on others submissions and asking questions from sound modules to midi to general newbie. Very low number of posts I do have, but I am working valiantly to try to involve myself.

I know how I feel when I really need help and I can't get a post answered, but it is all in fairness because I am merely one of many. I have had the same problems with many of my posts being answered in other forums despite tons of views from other members. Do I take this as insult? No, I just appreciate those who do have the time to reply. Like I originally said, I have learned a lot in three months of just reading and more in less than a month of posting and plenty more to come I am certain. But I know that despite the good deeds of some there are a lot pompus, holier than thou individuals who make it difficult for the vast majority who do truly want to help. None of those unconcerned individuals have posted here which says a lot and that is to be observed.

Opinions are free so expect that there are many. I thank all for the help I have received and know that in order to reach your goal, you have to be willing to pay your dues if you will. I am eager to do so and welcome all who are willing to aid in the process...
...After all, music is the one true universal language...

I didn't mean not agreeing with someone,or voicing your opinion.

I'm talking about knock down dragouts, personal insults and such.
There have been several people who left the board because of it.
And it's almost always over something silly.

That's what I don't dig.
I like it here,where it's nice and serene.:D

Yep I totally agree.

I wish there was someway you could tell how many posts in each forum a user has made.

Tukkis

You can.
Scroll to the top of this page /click search / type in user name in right column / click perform search.
The result will be a complete history of posts from the user-name you searched, inclusive of threads, thread starter and which forum they posted in. This tool is especially helpful when you've left a post yourself and forgot where the hell you posted it......or if you are thinking of PM ing someone but want to see if they have 'both oars in the water' first! ( some of you folks don't even have a boat.................totally wacked ):p . Just shittin' ya! .................hmmmm ....................then again..........

peace,
flat-9

I agree with alot of the opinions stated and i disagree with alot also.....

the main opinion i wanna voice is that there should be NO limits on how many songs a person can post here and there should be NO minimum post count to post here....that would somewhat limit the great music we are getting here....most of us can disipher (sp?) bullshit and just pass up the thread...if we all do that it will quickly be buried.....

mainstream music is crap so if someone interesting is posting a new song a day, that is a blessing....

and yes, that means the Clinic is crowded...you arent obligated to listen to everything....there was a time when Clinic threads were few and far between....this flood is another blessing......

I'm also one of the newbies. I just joined a week ago or so. What I see as a potential problem is people posting a tune and bailing. That I don't like so much. It may seem like that's what I did but in reality I don't have much time to post right now. I'm doing some heavy duty recording right now and will be for the next month or so. I generally try to partake as much as possible but won't really be able to join in seriously for a while. I also don't want to just get feedback and help with my tunes and bail. I don't feel right about that.

I'm going to continue to download all new material...I'll get to you when I get to you.I have no shame in ressurecting anyone(even if you suck) to the first page no matter what page your on.Newbies-Continue to post,do not be intimidated,do not feel bad...just one post on the 1st page at a time, please.

Note to Moderator:Can the first page in the clinic be longer?Or maybe a HOTLIST,for a quick rundown on what's new and good?I know nothing of the bbs world so my suggestions are totally from a green users standpoint.Rock the F*ck On!!!

Its all about the music!!!
We were all newbies at one time or another. Time will tell and weed out who will stay and who wont. I personally like to listen to new stuff. Of course I like to listen to you old reliables too. There are a lot of just fantastic people on this board who have been around a long time. I look up to those guys when I post something because if it is s*it they will let me know. New people need that kind of honesty. I thank God for you guys and I know that there are a lot of other people who do to. I have found that those guys that come on here with the attitude that they have the greatest stuff ever recorded get put in their place real fast and most of the time leave.
