I am trying to dump beats I made on my mpc2000 to sonar. I want to press record on sonar to trigger the play button on the mpc so I can get it to star perfectly. If any body can help holla! good Lookin! (any producers dj's or emcees holla at me lets get this networking crackin!)

You will also need to connect SONAR and the MPC by using MIDI.

MIDI OUT of your computer to MIDI IN on the MPC.

You will need to set the MPC to receive Midi Time Code [MTC] on the appropriate MIDI IN.

You will need to tell SONAR to transmit MTC. You will also need to tell SONAR which MIDI OUT to send the MTC.

On the MPC...

The MPC sequence can be off any length with Loop OFF and just using the MPC main outputs.

Setup Sync on the MPC:

Press SHIFT+9 (SYNC) on the MPC.
Set your SYNC IN. Set to 1 or 2 (depending on which MIDI IN you are using).

For MODE set Midi Time Code with Frame Rate: 30

Receive MMC does not matter since you are not setting SONAR to send it .

On the right side set Sync Out (Out: B)
Set Send MMC: ON..

In SONAR...

1. You'll need to set the TEMPO

2. You'll need to set up Sonar to transmit MTC.

OPTIONS>PROJECT>SYNC>SEND MIDI TIME CODE>check mark TRANSMIT MTC

I would also.... add two blank bars to the beginning of the sequence on the MPC (this is necessary to give the machines time to lock into the midi time code signal).

Highlight BARS: on the MPC main screen and press open window.
On the left side, set After Bar: 0
Just below, set Number of Bars: 2
Press INSERT.

This should get you up and running.

If you have any other questions, post it in the Hip-Hop Forums (sometimes I don't check this forum daily).

Peace...

I didn't know that you were using Sonar 1.0. I am using Sonar 3.1.1........

I am using Sonar Producers Editon 3.1.1. The setup of MTC MASTER DEVICE should be the same for Sonar 1.0 and Sonar 3.1.1.

wAIT LET ME cHECK.................................................................

OK. You are correct there is a difference.

Sonar 1 doesn't offer Midi Time Code [MTC].

It only offers Midi Sync [MIDI CLOCK] and Midi Machine Control [MMC]

Whereas, Sonar 3 offers ALL three. Midi Clock, MTC, and MMC

Ok. Now that we are armed with this info you should do this....

OPTIONS>PROJECT OPTIONS>MIDI OUT tab>SEND MIDI SYNC>check mark TRANSMIT MIDI START/CONTINUE/STOP/CLOCK

You will also need to tell the MPC to RECEIVE MIDI CLOCK (instead of MTC).

Peace... spin

Post Script. Let me know what is connected to your MIDI In's on the MPC.

Nothin right now I just have the proteus in the midi out b. I dont know if this matters but the sound card that I have is a M audiophile 2496 4in 4 out. Thank's for all your held this problem has been pissing me off for months!

Ok. Go MIDI OUT of the computer (the 2496 only has one MIDI OUT).

Go MIDI IN A on the MPC.

I've followed the directions and the mpc is not reciving the info.

Give me an indept description of your settings, for both Sonar and the MPC.

spin

MPC:
Sync in 1
Mode: Midi Clock Shift early(ms): 0
Recive MMC: Off

Sync Out: A
Mode off
Send MMC:off

sonar:
Options/Projects/Midi Out Tab/Midi start, continue, stop clock

I am not gettin any siginal at all from this setting. What in the F*%
am I doing wrong?

In Sonar, did you........

OPTIONS>MIDI DEVICES>SELECT MIDI INPUTS and OUTPUTS????

Also, in Sonar, did you.....

OPTIONS>GLOBAL>TIMECODE>SWITCH CURRENT CLOCK SOURCE AND START PLAYBACK

Did you.....
Did you check your midi cable? Is it working?

I can't find timecode switch current clocksource and start playbackunder global options on this ver of sonar

A similar MPC and Sonar XL 2.2 question

Hello all,
I read through all of this post and I learned all of this today as far as sequencing a MPC2000 with sonar. Thing only thing I had different was a Motu MTP AV in between the two. But what I was trying to do should have been real simple but I couldnt get it to work. I could get the two to sync in master or slave mode, but all I wanted to do was to trigger (record) sonar and tap my pads on the MPC ( sending midi ) and have Sonar to playback the midi from a sonar track to trigger the pads on the MPC. After working with the MPC for the last two weeks or so , I figure I would just use it for the drum sounds and assign them indiviually out through the expansion card to indiviuall ins on my digital mixer. I think the seperation would help with certain mixes. But to no avail, I couldnt get it to work. Is this possible?

Thanks

Malcolm

Still working at it

I figured it should be possible to do what I asked about in my last post. I did manage to get my keyboard to trigger pads on the MPC2000 by using some midi echo settings in sonar. But why canyt I just start record in Sonar,, triiger my MPC2000 pads, playback sonar and have them to trigger the pads on the mpc using midi commands?

Im trying to figure out if it's a setting I need in Sonar (which I doubt ) or something in the MPC. It cant be the Motu MTP AV because this works fine for all of my other Midi devices.

Thanks
malcolm
