"Dry" - New Recording

very nice dude.. everything sounds on the money for the most part.. You get great clean tones.. A friend of mine has one of the first 200 P.R.S.'s ever made.. He's says it's worth a lot because they changed manufacturers later on or something.. He was offered $4000 from the dude at Guitar Center but he turned it down..

That's probably more than my entire studio is worth..

Anyway, I have most of your tunes saved, but they're not on the computer right now for me to compare the old version.. This sounds better in almosy every way.. I'll have to admit I prefer the vocal delivery on the original, but this one is recorded better.. I know how it is going back to older tunes and redoing them, but that's a double edged sword sometimes.. The original sounded great and I didn't see the need to redo it, but that's just me.. The only reason I've been going back to older songs is because they were seriously screwed up from the beginning..

Sounds great !! Improved in almost every way!

Real nice sounds all around. Somebody mentioned the tone on the lead guit. I felt that was a real good sound too. Nice harmonies. I'm forced to listen on crappy headphones so I'm no help on commenting on the low end.

I heard something crackling at about 2:00. I think it might just be the pick on the guitar strings. Something to check out.

Vocal sync issue at 2:51 on "speculate." It might be pasted in other spots (e.g., 5:12). The real low vocal thing around 3:50-3:58 sounded a bit below your ranage.

Have you ever written a happy song? :D

Trip.

Great job, SLuiCe!

Sound/song/performance-wise straight A's all over!

One little thing: although I adore the courage & emotion in your singing, I feel I must warn you for intonation issues. It's getting better when the song is building up, but in the beginning (in the sentence "to wait through" & the word "you" in the second verse & "the light of our candles" for instance) it almost crosses to edge of 'acceptable' (in my ears, at least).

Perhaps it's just me. I cringe a little every time I hear it. Then I wonder whether I should just accept it, since it is obviously an emotional performance, or not. Do whatever you want with this information, I'm not 100% sure myself either... ;)

Sam- Thanks for the run down bro. The reason i'm re-doing a lot of songs, is even if they sounded ok the first time through, i don't think the originals will sit well on a cd with better recordings with a better mic. You'd have to hear it all together to decide i guess. i'm hoping to have something done this summer so i can move on to more writing. The majority of the songs themselves are over 8 years old! Just needed to give them a "proper" recording and learn how to in the process. i'll never be a star, but i at least want to die having made a CD. You know...

TripleM- That crackling was a pc problem. But i've since solved it. (THANK GOD!) i guess i've overlooked some areas....thanks! It was all over some guitar tracks i sent to Sam a couple weeks ago, and it took me a long time figure out why it was happening. Also i'll look into "speculate." It's rhythmically kind of a strange line and i had some trouble getting the harmony tight there. As for the low note....i think my range is like 3 notes, so someday i'll have someone else sing my harmonies. :)

Pedullist- no need to warn, i'm well aware of my intonation problems. But thanks. i'd tell you i'm a guitar player, not a singer, but that's just making excuses and not taking responsibility for my shortcomings. But i can honestly say that i feel like my singing is always improving. i just need more time in my life for it. i've only been recording for about a year and a half, so i'm kinda just starting to learn how to use my sometimes annoying voice. Don't let me get away with bad notes though. Continue to tell me when they bug you, and i'll continue to decide whether or not i can live with them. Deal? :)

Very Nice

Hey this is really good. I have no complaints except the one that Pedullist offered up. I think you can sing really well but there are a couple of things where you go off , maybe not outta key...but it sounds outta place. This reminds me of Alice In Chains meets Live or something similar.

Sluice, deal! I know how you feel, not a very experienced singer myself either.

Huge improvement over the previous version! The production and arrangement are stellar.

Getting nit-picky now...the acoustic could come back a little bit from 2:35 on, either with volume or pulling out some of the highs. It's very percussive and sounds like it's in a different soundscape than the other stuff. The electric rhythm parts sound awesome, but I have heard punchier sound from you.

I listened on my monitors and stereo speakers - both stood up to being cranked without hearing mud.

Keep it up! Your stuff was awesome when I first heard it, but you are improving a lot.

holy f@*k

Another killer tune, I really like this song and the mix sounds great.

I read some of the post's as i was listening. I didn't hear any "intonation" problems wit the vox..did you retrack? Your vocals are right up there with your ax playing imho..in short "awesome". If you don't make it in the " music biz" then they don't deserve you:cool: . Thanks Tom..

Analytical Man- Ya I know what you mean. Sometimes I do some weird stuff that seems out of place like that line "light of our candles". I may go back and change that when it starts to annoy me too. BTW I like both AIC and Live, so thanks!

fprod south- I'll look at those acoustics...you're probably right. As for the Electrics being punchier in other tunes, I didn't want them to be too punchy on this, but I will review them later when I haven't listened to it in a while. Thank you for that.

Doug H- Thanks a lot bro!

freshears- I haven't changed anything. Pedullist is a nitpicky son of a bitch that should just shut up once in a while. Just kidding :D
I'm always pushing my abilities so things come out "off" once in a while- I think that's what they're saying. I appreciate that you like the guitar work too. As for the music biz, well. I wish i was born 20 years sooner. The 70's sound like they were an exciting time for music. The life wasn't being squeezed out of it all the time.

Thanks again guys.

Are you Travis Meeks?
Dont lie. I know your Travis Meeks.

this is fucking amazing... theres alot of parts where I dont like the vocals, but the lyrics are great and the gutars are great... I wasnt really paying attention to the drums.

How long have you been writing songs man?

I'm a fan .. if you ever go on tour let me know.
again I would just like to say this is fucking incredible.

demensia- i don't know who Travis Meeks is, but you can call me whoever you want. It's the internet! :)
i've been writing tunes since i was a little littel kid i guess. This tune was written in 1993. Tour? Wouldn't that be fun eh!

Hey man, nice song. I have only one complaint.

This one sounds really typical....of your music.;)
Seriously though man, you gotta add in some lo-fi scratchy shit for us losers to point out.

Message to everyone

Hey man...I'll be back to listen hopefully in a few days. I love your stuff and wouldn't want to miss it.

To everyone else...apologies for not being around the last week or so. My computer went on the fritz and I've been working on a project (that I don't need my computer for) as well and I can't dl mp3's at work or even access NWR for that matter. I'll try to catch up some starting in a few days assuming my computer repairs go ok.

On a good note...I got all my color coded Markertek cables & a new 1010lt in case some of you didn't already know so as soon as I get the machine in working order I should be able to make some better sounding music :D

Sorry all...see ya in a few.

very nice, gagne...

the song really kicks in for me around the 4 minute mark when you hit the pedal to the metal, and the solo sound in this section is one I really like. The music really rocks with the vocals wailing in there too. Possibly one of my favorite "harder rock" sections of music that you do.

shit, I aint gonna nit pick on anything. ;)

unless maybe you just do an all out rocker and blast off with some gtr noodling!!

btw...what's the buzz and "track leakage?" at the fadeout?

Holy smokes man you're good at this. You're submitting to the comp cd right!! right!!?

I really love the guitars and vocals...not sure about the drums though, especially the crashes at the beginning. Piano is cool if a little clunky.

You have an excellent voice, I hope you appreciate it!

Jeeze...this is really good, and I mean that. Song is good, recording is very good, performance is wonderful. Damn, you've got it all going on man.

Slackmaster 2000

i may do another whole take of the vocals with a more subtle approach. This is the first time i've done vocals with a buzz on in a long time (i know i know-very unprofessional, but none of us are pros here anyway right? :) ), and while i like some of the stuff that came out, some of it may be a little *too much*.

jake-owa- Hey man thanks a lot. i really dug your song "Rebellionaires." You've got a very cool voice! Thanks again.

jagular- Hi. :)

mixmkr- i'll be doing some new writing soon. i've got a lot of guitar based ideas that i just haven't got to yet. i'm trying to get all this old stock out of the way, so to speak, learning to sing and record at the same time. Glad you liked this though man. Thanks a lot. That "track leakage" you mentioned is actually my guitar amp and a slightly noisy pickup configuration on my PRS. There's two guitars going on there so it may sound like a leak. I just accepted it and chalked it up as rock and roll :D

Slackmaster- ooo much appreciated comments man. I'll definitely have to buy you a beer or two in Bozeman this summer just for that encouragement. i'm going to send you somthing for the comp CD, i just can't decide on what. i know i don't have much time, so i'll get on it. The stuff i like is a bit more abstract than what it seems others would like around here. So maybe i can ask a few peeps privately for suggestions. Thanks a lot man!

Hey..really dig the song..my kinda music. A few questions if you dont mind.

1. What effects do you use on vocals? THey sound really clear without too much reverb?
2. How have you panned your guitars? I'm finding it hard to localize where its coming from..which is good! Kinda seems centered but a bit to the left..sounds sweet as.

Keep it up...i hope one day i can make recordings that sound that nice..it gives me faith as my own writing style is not too dissimilar to yours.

I hear ya Tom.. I'm trying to make a CD too, and other than the levels being consistent, every song will probably sound like it was recorded somewhere different.. You have the right idea though.. You da man! this tune sounds mint!
