Hey all,

Im using sonar 3 producer, and i had strange crackles for ages. Once i got rid of them i now have a new problem. Everytime im recording it keeps dropouting out.

Anyone have any idea why it would do this? I have 512MB of ram and 2.6Ghz processor.

Thanks

What sound card and what driver mode?

Try WDM or ASIO for the best low-latency results but be aware you will need to increase your latency or bounce some audio with the FX added if you are running out of grunt.

I got an M-Audio delta 1010LT, Im not sure what i got it set to, How do i go about checking?. Thanks :)

I am fairly sure that would support either mode.

Download the latest drivers for the sound card from the M-Audio site and check in Sonar's OPTIONS-AUDIO to see the driver type.

Here's another possibility. I use a program called Motherboard Monitor to monitor fan speeds and temps on my system. Sometimes, though, it causes dropouts, and Sonar will just stop playing the song. If this happens, I can exit Motherboard Monitor, and that always fixes it right away....every time.

The funny thing is, I have MM run automatically when windows starts, and sometimes it doesn't interfere with Sonar at all. Other times, the song will dropout within a couple of seconds, and will keep doing it every time I hit play, until I exit MM.

Maybe you have that, or some other program running that's causing the problem?

Sounds like your running too many effects and your cpu is peaking too much. You might just have to bounce a few of the tracks with fx on em and then turn off the loaded fx. Thats what I always do and that always fixes the problem. Just be sure to keep the original tracks without the fx incase you decide later on that you want to change them.

this is just one computer engr's recommendation...
from building my own and friends daw's.
try and use hard drives with big (eg..8mb) cache and dma enabled.
dma not enabled is a major cause of problems like the ones you describe.
read my back posts over the past year. many pointers on why dropouts/crackles occur. also disable any network card while in a recording session. try not to have anything in a pci slot except for the sound card.
and no fancy gaming cards which can cause problems.
