I go to a studio where the guy has a keyboard that feeds into his drum machine. He records sounds on different tracks of the drum machine, and when it is time to send the song to the computer, he can drop certain instruments and add certain ones by hitting buttons on his drum machine. Can the Dr-660 do this? If so, how? The manual isn't much help.
Basically, I am looking to feed my keyboard to the 660, and the 660 to the computer. Anyone have any help, it would be greatly appreciated!

The drum machine your studio guy was using is almost certainly a sampling drum machine, and the DR-660 is a sample-playback drum machine.

The DR-660 does not have the ability to sample sound in any form --- just to play back the samples inside of it as it came from the factory.

One solution to this might be adding a sampler module to your DR-660 --- there are lots of them on the used market --- and triggering with the midi notes your DR-660 sends out. You would need one midi cord from the midi out of the DR-660 to the midi in of the sampler and to make sure the channels match. The audio would be coming out of the sampler, not the DR-660.

I think he was asking how to change the instument patch for each channel in the drum machine, I dont know how to do that on that machine you have but on my EMU MP-7 I just go to the channel that I want while its playing and the change the instument patch, the same sequence should be playing just with a different sound for that channel.
