Does anyone write christian based songs?

Gidge,

Very nice. Good job.

The original idea I had stated with was to be somewhat vague in the first verse. Meaning, catching the listener off guard by talking about being down, with their first thoughts of being down mentally, pysically, or spiritually. But at the same time linking it with things contradictory to being down in that sence of the word. Then by the end of the first verse if not by the beginning of the chorus they realize its a spiritual position and not a condition.
And then the last verse be more specific, which you did very well.
Again nice job.

I posted this in a another thread today. Just thought I'd post here as well.

Thousands of voices are silenced
By the thunder of hate crashing down
Tears fall on ash covered faces
Praying for loved ones to be found

The innocent leap from the terror
Down to the sea of falling tears
An act of hate filled convictions
Has angered this nation beyond fear

Justice must somehow be served
An all who are guilty must pay
But who holds the pen for tomorrow
As we face an unwritten day

Hmmm...........

Well, George, I hope you haven't been dissuaded by the acts of one angry, closed off individual. I think sharing opinions and thoughts on music crosses all religious, cultural and civic barriers...... I'm sure you posts will get across to those who need to see them. :D And as for Royston....... :( Tisk, tisk..............
Steve

little z,

It will take a lot more than someone speaking their opinion against Christianity to get under my skin. When someone does this sort of thing, they're not actually speaking against me personally, they're coming against Christ. I actually found it to be an honor to be scorned for His name sake.

The positive thing about this is, if someone shakes your bucket, take a good look at what sloshes out. Did it glorify God or did you twist off and satisfy the flesh.

A good rule that I go by is, never let someone else's attitude determine mine. For if I do, then that person can control my attitude at will.

As far as Royston, I wonder what event in his life, or person, could have brought him to such a state of heart that he would dispise the One that died in his place that he might have life and have it more abundantly.

little z,

I hope I'm not coming across as boastful. For I'm truely concerned for Royston and others that share his views of the things of God. I really don't hold his attitude of Christianity against him, but rather those that have miss portrayed the love of God to him. I remember before I came to the point of accepting Christ, I saw many that called themselves Christians but yet the fruit of their life told a different story. I came to the conclusion that all Christians were nothing more than hypocrits. Then one day I came into contact with a gentle soul by the name of Miss Griff. She had heard my views of the Church and with a very soft reply she told me, George I understand why you don't want to go to church. But if you look you'll find at least one hypocrite in every church. Its sad but true. But if you let a hypocrite stand between you and God then the hypocrite is closer to God than you are.

And now that I am in Christ, my main concern is that I don't do that which I despised back then. This may be a shock to some, but Jesus was quoted in the Bible as saying, "Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kindom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name? And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness! (Matthew 7:21-23).

So I realized that there was something more to this than just saying Jesus is Lord. I must also, "do the will of the Father in heaven." But what was God's will for me, or any other Christian for that matter? From the Bible I read, in Matthew 22:36-40, A lawyer, testing Jesus, asked Him a question, "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" Jesus said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.

So to make short work of an already long story. I just don't want to become a stumbling block to someone else that has yet to meet Christ. I hope and pray that I can become so transparent that the world dosen't notice me more than they see the love of Christ in me.

Sorry for being so long winded. Just shooting straight from the heart.:)

Song: The Secret Place

When evil winds start blowing
And the clouds come rolling in
I close my eyes and call Your name
An Your Spirit comes like a friend
Even in the darkest hour
I remember to seek Your face
Because Your Spirit comes
And takes me to the secret place

(Chorus)
In the secret place
There's only me and you
In the secret place
I find grace to see it through
In the secret place
There is strength to run the race
Your love lifted me
In the secret place

I've seen the midnight sorrow
Cloud the light of day
But joy comes in the morning
Let His Word lead the way
And I know that I can't make it
Standing on my own
Through life I take this journey
But Your love is my home

(Chorus)

A friend and I recently wrote a memorial song about the World Trade Tower tragedy. I have the words and hope to track the song next week.

Take My Soul

Fly away, oh, my soul
To that place, where righteous go
With angles near, I’m not alone
Take my soul, and guide me home.

A crash was heard, the sky turned black, we watched in shock and fear
Oh, my God, what have they done, we cried with many tears.
In our sorrow, loss and grief, the whole world knelt in prayer
Courage, strength and love were shown, with broken hearts we shared.

Fly away, oh, my soul
To that place, where righteous go
With angles near, I’m not alone
Take my soul, and guide me home.

Our strength lies not in buildings, nor in our Army’s might,
But in the words of Jesus, in wisdom, love and right.
God is our purpose, to know Him, love and serve
Just your faithful presence, is more than I deserve.

Fly away, oh, my soul
To that place, where righteous go
With angles near, I’m not alone
Take my soul, and guide me home.

Weep no more, for I am home, in the presence of the Lord
Jesus wiped away our tears, and sorrow is no more.

Fly away, oh, my soul
To that place, where righteous go
With angles near, I’m not alone
Take my soul, and guide me home.

JPS,

Great lyrics. I especially liked this verse:

Our strength lies not in buildings, nor in our Army’s might,
But in the words of Jesus, in wisdom, love and right.
God is our purpose, to know Him, love and serve
Just your faithful presence, is more than I deserve.

Again good song.

Thanks for the kind words on the song.

BTW, I also looked at your words and was impressed with the sense of intimancy it reflects of your relationship with God. I think is is something that a non-christian may really never understand, and something that all christians, hopefully, continue to try and build into their relationship with God. Is there a melody to the words? If so, I would like to hear it. I have not read all the way through this thread, it may be there and I just don't know.

No, but I did engineer a cd for a christian band that is now on the market, Elijah's Fire, Out of the Darkness. It is on sale now, has anyone heard of the band.

dragonworks,

The first CD project recorded with the group I play with was also called, "Out of the Darkness". Naming the projects kind of evolved into a progressive thing. The first being "Out of the Darkness", the second "Into the Light", and the third "Pressing On". We've just recently started recording a new project but haven't really discussed the CD title yet. I guess we'll wait, listen to what its saying at the end of the project, and let it name itself like we did the others. :)

Well,

I was going to ignore the rest of this thread, but seeing how you lot keep mentioning my name, I though I'd simply repost my earlier response.

"Religion has caused so many wars and needless deaths, that one has to ask themselves, is it really worth it?"

It seems more poignant now than when I first wrote it a month ago.

Royston,

Religion has caused so many wars and needless deaths, that one has to ask themselves, is it really worth it?"

I agree with what you are saying, in a sence. While it is true that many have lost there lives in the name of religion. But is this the fault of religion or men going beyond the basis of which their reigion was founded on.

For instance, I believe myself to be a Christian and one of my most heart felt convictions is against abortion. How do I combat this thing I believe to be wrong? I cannot speak for others but I pray to God and share my beliefs with others if they will allow me. But there have been those that also disliked abortion that went beyond and against God's Word by taking a gun into an abortion clinic and taking lives in the name of their supposed religion. Yet there are those that associate me with these extremist.

And on the other hand, we cannot forget what happened at Combine High School, when two boys that hated Christians and athlets went on a shooting rampage wounding and killing several including themselves. But not before asking their victims if they were Christians. When the young girl replied yes she was shot dead. They obviously disliked Christians. But am I to associate you with these extremist because of your views of Christianity?

I must confess that I have been riddiculed and put down for my faith before, but I must say I had never been blasted with the degree of hatred that was conveyed in your post at our first meeting in the beginning of this thread. I admit I was not shaken although I was surprised. Others that mentioned your name in this thread did so out of a reaction to your post.

I don't know if you read all of the posts where that incident was mentioned or not, but I was just trying to understand what brought you to those views. Since the hostility was projected at Christians I was wondering what person or group in the name of Christianity may have been a contributing factor to those views if any. :)

I must admit that I had not ventured into the "Cave" before our exchange in this thread. So it kind of prepared me for what was in store for me there. :D

Christian Music

I have ready most of the posts on this subject and its encouraging to know that people are willing to share their thought. I was converted from atheism 8 years ago to Christianity and It took roughly 4 years of continual study, reviewing the evidence and making logical choices. I am more than familiar with the comments that Royston has made in his/her rant. A Christian is defined as one who is a disciple of Christ, someone who promotes his teachings of love and peace. The war and death you refer to were from the hands of fanatics who used religion as a vehicle to justify their hate. Hate kills, no matter who you try to blame with stereotypes, it boils down to hate. Many people have been tortured in the name of Christianity, but by definitions those committing the crimes were not Christian. Lets look at non-religious groups, lets say Nazi's, they were non-religious and yet they murdered millions of people, should I then lump all non-religious people with Hitler, No! How about China, ruthless government, has its people enslaved at young ages, even recognized as abusers of human rights by the most liberal of folks, also a non-religious organization. Should I lump all Asian people together while Iam at it? My very own sister hates me because of my faith, she expects tolerance without giving tolerance, she hates and justifies her hate based on a few bad experiences as a child, the same experiences I had. The difference is that she never forgives people, she holds the hatred inside until it grows into an ugly growth on her own soul. Forgive and ye shall be forgiven. Do not let the hate spread anymore.

Therefore, since we have recieved this ministry, as we have recieved mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness not handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manisfestation of the truth commending ourselves in the sight of God.

pretty interesting thread. i just found it today. i just found the home recording bbs yesterday. my name is chuck and i write and produce CCM. i live in nashville, tn.(yee ha) ive had a couple of cuts to date. 1 - "no fear" by clay crosse on the album "a different man" which also was put on the "left behind-the movie" soundtrack & 2 - "serious" by joy williams on her self-titled debut album and also going on the "WOW 2002" pop/rock/ac compilation coming out soon. just as a quick response to royston as to why call it "christian" music, this is a certifiable genre of music, just as much as latin, pop, rock,r&b etc... w/ over 150 million in units sold according to soundscan for the 2000 year, recognized as such by the NARAS (grammys). technically none of the other "religions" that were listed do this. the musical genre just happens to refer to the beliefs its associated with. those two tunes can be heard at www.claycrosse.com and www.joywilliams.net . i also write pop/country but havent had quite the breaks as i have in the CCM market, but soon. anyway, i just thought id chime in on the subject and say "yes" im a christian and i write songs about it. its kinda hard not to.

atomictoyz,

expects tolerance without giving tolerance

There is a definite truth in your statement. Maybe even a song.
Enjoyed your thoughts Dennis. :)

chucknkd,

Welcome to the thread, and where the rubber meets the road sometimes. ;) Also congratulations on the sucess of your songs.

"yes" im a christian and i write songs about it. its kinda hard not to.

"Sing to Him a new song", When you write about Someone, who's mercies are new every morning, there's no lack for something to write about is there. :)

Royston,

I am a Christian and I believe "religion" is a bad thing. How can that be?

My understanding of religion is that it generally invloves a rigid system of rules and regulations to try to earn the "right' to win God and/or man's approval by their performance.

Chistianity asks you to accept that you can never be good enough to achieve perfection and to desire and persue relationship with God above all else. This is made possible by recieving His gift of righteosness as he took our place for the results of our imperfections.

I know all religions consider themselves unique compared to others but there really is a defining seperation in those who persue relationship and those who persue religion. Unfortunately Christians can fall back into a religious persuit. It also happened in the old Testament with the Jews who did not want to face God face to face but wanted rules and regualtions instead.

Rules and regulations appeal to our human nature as they do not require us to think and act responsibly. We want someone else to take that responsibility for us because it seems easier and less risky that way.

Relaltionship has so much more potential rewards but it is much more risky. It requires us to be vulnerable and requires us to think and work out issues on a daily and minute by minute basis. Relationship requires personal accountability and walking into uncharted teritory where we dont have all the awnsers ahead of time. We have access to Someone who has all the awnsers we need but we have to go back each day and many times a day for those awnsers.

I have been guilty of being religious and very un-Christlike at the same time and quite proud of my stance during that moment. Fighting the battle to focus on my relationship and to keep religion out of my life is a full time job and somedays I am asleep on the job.

Royston, I would like to offer my humble apologies for the religious things I and other Christians have done and ask for your forgiveness. I can not make up for the wrong things that have been done by the church but I would like you remember that their are good Doctors and bad ones but we still go to try to find a good Doctor when we need medical help no matter how many bad ones we have been to.

I hope someday you will meet someone who will be a good example of someone who has a relationship with Christ and has kept religion out of their heart.

Life is so much more fulfilling, rewarding and exciting this way.

I would like to offer food for thought to the other Christians out there.

The only people Jesus ever spoke a harsh word to were the Religous leaders (Pharises).

The people that flocked to Him were the sinners who knew they were sinners. They made no pretense to be anything else. They sensed his lack of judgement and His acceptance of them as they were. Would it not be reasonable to assume that as we (if we) become more Christlike that the lost and un-Godly would not also feel embraced by us and desire to be around us for the same reason they wanted to be with Jesus? I am not talking about being popular but about being real. Being approachable but steadfast in God's values.

As a whole it is sad to see that the church has a very different image to the world today.

As we the Church become more Christlike the world will respond to us like it did when He walked among us as one of us.

Thank you for letting me share my heart. This has nothing specific about songwriting but it breaks my heart to meet so many people like our friend Royston who have closed their ears because of what they have seen with their eyes.

May the Peace of the Lord be with you and let us seek His face together.

J. Scott Bell aka Scooter B
