Do you buy that expensive recording software, or just download it?(Read authors post)

Short reply to a RIDICULOUS comment

Somebody (Veiledsaber I believe his or her name was) posted this remark in support of today's music industry:

"the serious players in music biz will continue to do as they have always done - succeed by being talented and hardworking, and maintaining their integrity."

?

Today's corporate hype is integrity? For what? Making money? Britney Spears and her wanna-bees have real "talent?"

I won't use a program I didn't pay for. The company that designs and manufactures the programs are doing it for a living. I hate when a customer uses my service then stiffs me for the bill. Heck, I won't even take a burned copy of a CD from a friend. If I want the music bad enough I will buy the CD.

Britney may not have an ounce of talent, but that makes the people who made her record sellable (producers, engineers etc) pretty damn talented if you ask me.

When i was 10 (6 years ago) i used some pirated CEP and Cakewalk, but i do not under any circumstances use it now.

I will not use pirated software to make money.

i know a guy who has a pirated waves diamond bundle and he charges $65/hour for mixing! thats bogus because what exactly is he charging so much for? Using a stolen program? its not like he's covering his expenses..

i only use real deal paid for stuff. if i want to try it, i know a lot of people who record and have all sorts of apps and they will gladly let me check it out on their setups.

btw, yes, there are legal ways of getting trials. most of the time those trials are not limited; they just expire in 10 days, or whatever it is. 10 days is plenty of time to "try" something out.

does the car dealerships let you test drive a car for a couple months? do they let you take it on your family vacation? can you go racing with it? how about offroading?

you people are being vague in your defense, using car analogies, yet you only skim the surface.

if you have a party and you want everybody to cough up $5 before they go in (typical of teen house parties) and then they can drink and have all the fun they want, would you like if some people jumped the fence and didnt have to pay like everyone else? who's gonna pay those peoples dues? YOU.

thats the viewpoint of the creators.
 
BTW i signed a Neg that i just gave to Toker. i dont think his retaliation will affect me, given his rep.

Not upset. Found it funny that the only time one gets negative feedback is on one of these "baited" threads. One gets it simply for having an opposing opinion, or liking Behringer :D . There was no anger in my post. Just thought I should justify the feedback.

That being said....
Nobody said anything about trying the software for "a couple months". You assume to much. But I am gonna spend a good amount of hours on it, just as I would any guitar, amp, or processor. I hurt nobody, and paid for what I kept and use. I did not steal anything, but rather armed myself as an educated consumer. I protected myself from being ripped off.

BTW when you buy a car you have 3 days, by law, to decided if you want to keep it or not. Once you open the shrink wrap on software....you are stuck with it...PERIOD. I'm glad you know all these people that record and let you try their software....not all of us do.

HW vs SW comps are best are opposing opinions. Multiband compressors are crap vs usefull mastering tools are opposing opinions. Intellectual property theft not really being stealing is not an opinion, it's a crime, and it's a crime against everyone on this board who has to pay more for software, get less features, and deal with dongles and challange / response BS because of you and your ilk. That *might* be why someone would give you negative rep points for your crusade to rationalize bad citizenship. By your logic, our prisons are full of convicts who are there "simply for having an oposing opinion". :rolleyes:

And who are ANY of you to judge others? A bit full of the "holier than thou" aren't ya? Again, I didn't steel anything. I tried it all, and paid for the one that best suit me. Explain to me just what I stoled? Also, explain to me what makes you better than I?

I controlled what I said just fine. I justified that act against me. Wouldn't want an asshole act like that to go unjustified. If it wasn't dirrected at you, then you should ignore it.
 
I guess you could see that as taking a video game to try it before purchasing the game... blockbuster would be mad at you :P

I admit, I did try to find Logic Pro on the internet, couldn't find it, now I'm saving up to buy it... though I know i'll just hate having to care for the dongle...
