That's an ABSOLUTE must. Upgrade your definitions every week. The %^$@ hackers come with new stuff daily.

Hey Moskus,

I've had the DFH since January and it is the greatest thing for me since sliced bread! I put together my own drummap as well in Battery so I know your pain. It took me a few days to create (and a few weeks to perfect).

I've been programming drums for about 14 years now and this sampled kit has every little detail that I've always looked for.
Also, according to Mattias over at Toontrack, Drumkit From Hell 2 will be out late this year and it will have a ton more features the least of which is 24bit samples. Look for a cymbal add-on kit for DFH 1 to be out in a month or so.

Yeah I know.. I'm currently creating a DrumMap for the newly aquired Drumkit From Hell (man, it's amazing!) and it takes forever to make... That's one draw-back.

Jeez James, do you visit lots of porn sites or something? I've been on the net for about 6 years, and I got infected by one (1!) virus only!

I never got infected yet, but that's because I keep my software up to date. I once got a virus from the drivers file on a CD distributed by a very well known keyboard manufacturer. My software kept the virus out. The company denied that they have a virus infected CD when I emailed them. I downloaded the drivers from the web site and installed it with no problem though.

Yeah, I got the old PC Cillin running for Win98. And since I got WinXP Home, I rarely boot to Win98SE (I got dual boot, WinXP Home & Win98SE). I've always checked for virus at least once in a week, but somehow I was too lazzzzzzyyy to do it. And it affected hundreds of my files. Well, that's the price :( . BTW, for other apps, I only upgraded when I need to upgrade. For Office thingee, I stick with Ms Office 97, since I only use it for simple writting purpose only. Why would I spend more cash for Office 2K or even Office XP anyway ? :)
Just like Guitar Ed, I also purchased SF 6 after years of SF 4.5H. And for me, it's not that worth (I got CEP2.0 which served my taste better). These times, I think I only want to upgrade my DirX plugins & hardware if I got a chance.

Naw, it's enough with one monster-thread starting with MY name! :D

We really should try to out-"post" the DAWusers with ADD-thread in the Cave. Somebody ask Slack to move the Thread...

Ssshhh... don't ask Slack that soon... Post count wise... :D

for software, i upgrade when there is new functionality that is cool.

for hardware, i upgrade when the software takes the hardware to its limits.

i upgraded to Sonar2 because of the new file formatting.

now i've got to upgrade my desktop CPU because some of the projects i'm working on have plugins that are max'ing out my 1.2ghz CPU. in order to get the work done, i've got to submix.

I'm happy with my system just the way it is... well software wise.

I have Windows XP, Office XP, but use my 2000 versions for both. I stopped using windows update about a year ago.

I use all but the last update on Sonar 2 (I think it's the last anyway), and probably won't buy an upgrade for a couple versions. newer versions of software just seem to have too much useless baggage with them.

I'll judge wheather to upgrade or not based on functionality, most of my upgrades come free (or cheap) with hardware upgrades anyway.

one way to think about it is, I'd rather have all of tools I need to do a job, than have the best tools to do half the job.

Why not get the last upgrade too? It's free. I take anything that's free.

I usually try and keep my programs and OS updated/upgraded. I have Sonar 2.1 on my system now. I haven't put .2 on yet because I have none of the hardware it supports, nor do I see having it in the near future. For WinXP (Home), when I bought the software it came with Service pack 1. I have not downloaded any updates to it all. I think I turned that automatic update stuff after installing WinXP. When I first installed everything on my newer DAW, everything worked just like I wanted. I fear changing that. My first DAW was so crappy it seemed almost as if every other update was a step back. I am very cautious about upgrading these days.

BTW I only upgrade After others have agreed that it wont screw everything up!! No more first kid on the block for me!

I upgrade kicking and screaming when there is no other option :D.

Unfortunately that gets expensive when everything hits at once (like now). Maybe I'll start upgrading bit by bit from now on :D.
