Hi, I'm trying to figure out a cheap way to control stage lights via MIDI, for live performance. I'm planning on using a USB game controller and some custom software for simple on/off control of a strobe light and some halogens. My problem is finding a MIDI-to-relay box to convert MIDI data to on/off commands, for the connection to the lights. Everything that I can find is over $100, and I was hoping to pick something up for much cheaper than that, or possibly do it myself.

Anyone have any ideas? How difficult would it be to wire something like this up? I have pretty minimal electronics experience (circuit bending and the like), but I'm a fast learner and could probably tackle a larger project if I had sufficient gumption.

Is this too gearhead for this forum?
