Hi, sorry upfront for the newbish question...

I have a Presonus FP10 firewire setup (which has Midi I/O) running thru an ADK laptop DAW. I'd like to get a decent 49 key controller mostly just to jam for fun thru FM8, Fruity Loops, etc., and maybe for some recording (I use Cubase LE4 and Adobe Audition3), but most of the controllers I'm seeing don't seem to support firewire or standard midi I/O. It's mostly USB.

Should I be going for a USB midi controller, or am I better off looking for something DC powered that utilizes the standard MIDI I/O connections on my FP10?

Also, as a secondary concern, does anyone know off hand if I'm likely to find something in that arena that has decent key-weight (semi-weighted or better)?

Thanks!

The Akai MPK series have standard 5-pin MIDI DIN I/O along with USB.

I had conflicts with the USB so went with a 6-volt 1amp power supply from Radio Shack and use a MIDIsport 8x8 for I/O with the MPK.

Check to be sure because specs can change.

If you get an MPK really consider the 61-key version for the key-split option. The smaller keyboards don't have that feature. I bought a 49 but wish I went for the 61.
