I agree that the Firepod's preamps are definitely not bad, but I just never really thought they added anything to the guitar. I just bought a Digi 002, threw a 57 on my amp, added very little EQ (cut some lows out, dipped a little around 450 Hz) and the tone I got was this:
I played both guitars / bass, and my friend played drums. Ya ya, bass is a little out of tune, and I suck at bass, haha. =] Both left and right are done with:
Peavey 5150
Avatar Cab w/ Vintage 30's
Gibson SG
SM57 a little left of the center of the cone (half inch on left, 2 1/2 on right).
Changed tone / gain between the left and right guitars when I recorded them.
I think they sound pretty good, but maybe everyone here will rip my recording a new asshole and say they suck, but to me I like it. And I could never accomplish that with the Firepod preamps. Same setup and everything.. Hope that helps at all.
Peace!
PS. I recorded, mixed, and mastered 3 songs (including the one I posted) in 3 hours, so it isn't the best I could've done, but it came out awesome to me. =]
