Dirty Pickups!

Mixing and Mastering.
DOes anyone have any tips on how to avoid getting dirt in the gpas surrounding the pickups atall?
Ive though of putting sticky tape over the gaps, but I dont want to ruin my guitars body by putting chemical sticky tape on it.

Nope....

But they sell compressed air in rattle-cans... ment for electronics.. might be handy removing it?
 
Aye, could work, but ID rather not let the dirt in in the first place.

Don't worry too much about it. If you want to try and blow the stuff out, that's fine, but a little dirt isn't likely to hurt anything. Besides, people pay good money for that kind of stuff these days. It's called "distressing."

I used blutac for a while but it gets gunky itself after a while. Mind you blutac is good for getting dust & loose crud out of tight spots.

Good tip man.
Not sure Id use it too cover the gap, but sounds good for picking up dirt.

I'd perhaps manufacture or buy a frame for the pickups... some of them seem to be quite well shielded to start with.. :confused:
 
Some of the "dirt" may also be metal filings that are attracted to the pickups. Get a strong magnet and see if you can attract these away from the pickups to the other magnet.
 
Use a piece of DUCT TAPE to blot up all metal filings around the mag screws.
I don't know where the filings come from, but it seem I have to clean it up every so often.
