Digitized/Computer-sh sounding beats

Hey guys.

Just wondering how to get a certain sound. I've heard these type of samples and beats that sound very digitized, almost like a failing computer or circuits....really hard to explain.

I need to listen to this at home, as I can't really listen to this at proper levels at work, but from the very little that I picked up sounds like a very mild choppage and some filtering, nothing outrageous.

I'll have a better post tonight.

There is a hunk of musicians interested in "circuit bending". It's a way of manipulating circuits that create sounds so that they make new and interesting sounds. Though I don't have the freedom to listen to the song I think I have an idea what you're talking about. "Failing circuits" is i suppose pretty close to what those guys do, except they might consider the circuits to be succeeding at that point .

I'm not sure what daw you're running but if it supports vst's, check out this plug. It's what I use to create chopped up digitally f'ed up sounds..

Sorry didn't get to this earlier. Just listened to it. It is just a filtered noise. Sounds like a bandpass filter with some resonance. At 3:00 it is similar, except it is passed through some mild saturation. There is a clicky attack element to it which you could achieve with a pitched up tambourine hit.

The quality of the noise itself is also important. It might be better to use some kind of percussion source like a shaker that's looped so that the sound sustains. Otherwise you can experiment with pure white noise and filtering.
