I have been lookign around and i cantfind any posts on this, or on the internet. so can anyone help. Also are the rode Nt1's white or are they an older model etc...? Thankyou

Well, I bought an NT-1 right after they were released, so I'm certain that it is one of the first mics they built. It seems to be smoother and less hyped on the top than the newer NT-1's I've compared it to. The brass body is painted gray on mine.

I just bought an NT1a. I like it a lot. Here's a review that highlights a few slight differences between the two mics.

yer i have seen 2 grey/cream ones that i have my eye on. I was debating whether to get the Nt1 or Nt1a because i think i saw somewhere (like usual) that Rode's manufacturing has gone downhill (i think because they changed countries it was made in to china or something) and the recent Nt1a's arent as good as good as older ones made. Thanksfor the review btw

I also have an older NT-1 that I bought about 5 years ago. I love it. What a great sound for such a great price. I haven't heard any of the NT-1a's but I do know that Rode was touting it as being an incredibly quiet mic with the lowest noise of any other mic. I'm not sure if that also holds true for older NT-1s or if Rode redesigned it. I guess someone can compare the specs. Either way I do remember reading a review about the NT-1a and the reviewer did comment that the NT-1a was in fact an incredibly quiet microphone with regards to self-noise.

I bought a NT-1 pair in 2000 and they were just awful. sold them... maybe the NT-1a is better. maybe it was just the two I had, but I bet not.

Don't know about the NT1 but the NT1a is

Sorry I was just havin fun....I really want to purchase a 2nd vocal mic. I have an RE-20 and I am debating about getting a Rode. Just been watching the posts.

If you email Peter Freedman directly you'll find that the NT1 with the "A" designation is a entirely "Australian" product. They NO LONGER source their capsules from China. Their capsules, circuit boards, bodies etc. are now in house manufactured in their huge and advanced facility in Australia. I wish these vicious rumors of chinese made capsules would die, but I guess someone has to take potshots at someone else to feel important around here... 
The original versions of the NT1 and NT2 used imported capsules made to their specs. Now they make them themselves.......get over it.......

rodent 1 vs 1a
supposedly the 1 a is improvedd over the 1. I bought a 1 and wound up giving it to a friend whoneeded a mic.
Have also heard a 1a.
1= poo
1a=slightly cleaner poo.
both horribly sibilant and harsh on top end on everything I tried to record.
Wound up with a Red5sound rv10 multipattern which is great & for less money.
Later supplemented this with a Rode classic - the original.
Cost me nearly 400ukp but worth it.
