I came across a used, but like new Yamaha AW2400 yesterday and took the plunge.

The last month or so I was debating if I should go one of these routes:
-A&H GS3000 + Alesis HD24
-Yamaha 01X+I88x + PC (or Laptop)
-Yamaha AW2400

The first option is definitely the most 'pro', but also not very mobile and expensive.
The 2nd option was relatively expensive and I would need a dedicated PC or laptop.
The AW2400 seemed for me the best of both worlds;
it's fairly mobile (as I want to do location-recordings in my band's rehearsal space) and has the I/O capabilities that I missed in my Korg D16 (only 1 aux, no inserts, only 2x XLR and no phantom power).

The few things that I will miss on my D16 (it's up for sale now), is the touchscreen, the pan-pot per channel and the intuitive ease of use.

Any more AW-users that had to ask themselves the same questions (whether to go PC/DAW, analog desk+multitracker, etc.) ?

Are you saying the Korg D1600 has not phantom power and only 2 XLR inputs?
Mine has phantom power and 4 XLR inputs.

long time no see.

I went full pc a few years ago and now i'm back to a multitracker and occassiuonally mix on the pc. i just hate tracking to pc. Mine is too noisy. Plus, I like the mobility of a multitracker. i dont know why, but i get more satisfaction leaving the pc off.

I'm right there with ya!
Sure, I wouldn't mind occasionally to send all the individual track-wav files of the AW2400 via USB to a PC, so I can tinker with VST plugins and what not,
but for now I'm more mobile with just the AW2400, than if I would get an 01X, I88X and a laptop.

Now I just need to work my way through the hefty AW2400 manual, because it's not as intuitive as the Korg D16.

I upgraded from my D1600 to the D3200. I prefer to track on one of these as opposed to a computer. I will than take those tracks and import then into Adobe Audition 3 for editing, mastering, etc. I could do all of this on the
D3200 but the stinking LCD screen is so small.

Well,
tried some tracking with the AW2400 today...

that machine sure is way more cumbersome/difficult than the Korg D16.

I still haven't found out yet how to audition extra input tracks while playing back earlier recorded tracks. For me, this is a mandatory function for rehearsing... :(

That is something I do enjoy doing with the pc. All of my gear has adat i/o and I've got 2 pc's with adat i/o cards. I run signals through the pc's as big fx boxes sometimes. Since my pc's suck, doing it that way isn't has hd intensive as playing the tracks right off of the pc's. But it isn't something I do often. I'll probably do it a lot more once I get pc from this decade.
