Hello everybody, well I am convinced that the guy who said "homerecording is the damnest avocation ever invented by man"(or something to that effect) was understating it by a magnitude of 1k.
Ok knightfly no questions here, yet., no visit either. Went to the links. Read everything. Opened Everest book. Read 2 chapters. Again. Highlighted the sentences of interest. Went here :

http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/hframe.html

Read for 2 more hours. Ok. I'm a genius now, right. Got this shit down:rolleyes:

Ok, start to list questions. No way to illustrate. Start to draw arbitrary layout.

Ok, hmmmmmm, where to start? Ok Might as well start planning ULTIMATE personal
control room. Need model. Open Everests book. Hmmm "whats the first priority?"

Ok, if I had the opportunity to build from the ground up, where would I start? Ah, control room, everything else is space dependent, right? ok Define prioritys. 2 more hours study. Ah, need Room acoustics model. What type. LEDE(R)?
nah, their obsolete, arn't they? I dunno:confused: Well, what the fuck is the alternative? Johns I dunno:confused: Get on net.....AHHHHHHH, they got to be fucking kidding me. OK reality check. Is this REALLY what I want to do with my fucking life?
NO!! The WHOLE damn reason for getting into this darkhole in the first place was to record a little strat, and the stupid music me my friend play. Oh brother, 8 trks, midi, computers, the net, digital audio, cheap analog, EVEREST, hr.com. , Sayer, Knightfly,
(amongst all of you:D ) later........hmmmm...New Years huh, so what, I've got a studio to design right?.... Oh oh, wifes pissed syndrome setting in, better hurry......
What fucking model...fuck it! Its arbitrary at this point anyway...ok, wait, hmmmmm
whats this....."early reflections"..... ok, maybe thats a clue.....read on.....oh....ok RFZ!

BINGOOOOO!! Yea, thats it!! word, "Rick, your not as stupid as I feel".......

I thought........ http://home.rcsis.com/beachchic/confusion1.jpg>
ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRR!!! .....back to the drawing board..........

"Within your heart, keep one still,
secret spot where dreams may go."(quote from my wife)

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY

fitzzzzzzzzzzz.....(snore)......

:D

You'll get there at least 5 years earlier if you stay away from the acoustics group and Eric - You got off easy with your Q's and A's - Even though I've yet to post a question there, Eric's answers to others I would have asked have usually sent me back to the books with my tail between my legs.

The only reason I'm not (yet) COMPLETELY crazy from all this, is that I've not the time or money (yet) to break ground ANYWAY, so no big deal if I still have a few thousand un-answered (or, sometimes worse, answered) questions

Oh. BTW - the standard size sample for Sabine values is 8 ft by 9 ft - no idea why...

Oh, and YES YOU WILL eventually (help) build a studio - when you finally get to Oregon, I figger you owe me about 100 hours of free labor, maybe more :=) We'll get my kid and a bud out, kid plays gweeter and bass, bud beats drums, you on strat, me on keys, all thru about 400 W/side into some folded horn mains, neighbors gonna LOVE us... Steve

Steve, I'd give my proverbial right arm. And I am coming. Soon. Give ya all I got.

Cool, I'd love it. Hey you guys know Inagodadivita?:D
Happy New Year and all that jazz.

"Hey you guys know Inagodadivita?"-

Yeah, but 2 minutes of gweeter/keys ain't worth waitin' 15 minutes for the drummer to finish gettin' his rocks off... :=)

Also, you hear what the economy's like up here? Bring THREE jobs with ya, one for each of us (tired of mine) and a SPARE...

Actually, as fun as this acoustic shit is gettin' to be (Steve, you SICK bastard...) thinkin' about seein' if I can work it into something semi-lucrative (or at least make a little money at it) - so far, just the sperm of an inkling of a possible idea, still...

My best bud and former guitar player (still plays, just too far away to hear) has a phrase that usually overcomes all this grey matter deep shit - "Let's Blast..." Every once in a while ya just gotta do it - Later Fitz... Steve

Rick - try not to over think it man! It's only rock and roll. :) I oscillate between being worried about early reflections (got a couple) and just saying f**k it ! Look at half the articles in Tape-Op and you see guys making great sounding records in big rectangular wharehouses with no acoustic treatment at all!

Gotta go - theres a Sabine calling me.

Kevin.

Have a great 03' everyone!

Thanks alot Kevin, 'preciate it I guess I worry tooooooooo much. Sure wish I understood some of this acoustics stuff. It won't be so bad once I find my new home.
Then I can really get into the "experiment" stuff. Say Kevin, how's YOUR space commin? Are you gettin some cool stuff to tape? I envy you. Looks like you have a real great space. BTW, what do you mixdown to, 1/2 trk then to digital or what. My new computer should be done being tested this weekend and I want to get the digital stuff happenin. At least burnin CD's . It's already old stuff to everyone else, but...oh well. Me be havin fun!!
fitz:)

Well you only have to understand it if you want to. There is not a huge need to understand the math and theory behind lots of this stuff - the formulas are proven to work... Just apply them and get down to recording.

My space is coming along nicly thank you. We got the carpet installed today - it looks AWSOME!!! I'll have pics up over the weekend. I'll do the finish electrical work this weekend, couple more doors and then it is just some trim, paint, fabric wall covers, and wood flooring to be done!. [Add to that wiring the patchbay and snakes...]

I mix down to either 1/4" reel or the computer. I'd like to get a masterlink one of these days though. Maybe once the cash flow to the lumber yard has abated I can get one :(

Cheers
Kevin.
