SoundFonts
If you know what fonts are, soundfont is easy to get the grasp on. Imagine a MIDI-device, but instead playing the built in sounds, you can download sounds from the net.

MIDI
Signals that contain noteinformation like: Note, velocity, channel, instrument, etc. Not to be confused with audio. MIDI is just signals containing information. MIDI will for example go from a MIDI-controller (keyboard) -> Sequenser (Sonar) -> MIDI-playback device (such as a hardware unit or softsynth)

Audio
Sound from i.e. a guitar or mic. Often recorded to harddrive around here. ;)

Latency
Can be understood as how "late" the signal is. If you are using a softsynth, there will be a delay between you press a key on you MIDI-controller till you hear a sound. That's latency. It's the processing time it takes to understand the MIDI-signal and make the tone based on that information.

Hope this helps

..well, no, the singer was my uncle Steven.

Audigy sang One man Army, Breathe, Fuel, etc...

Not again. It's where thorn grows without a roses.
