I need to pick up a gate for my rack. As a relative newbie, I'm heading for the DBX xl units. But my question is 166xl or 266xl? The 266 is a bit cheaper and I'm not sure why. I run a Yamaha MG 16/6 to a Tascam DA-38 and mix down to a Tascam CDRW-700, if this has any bearing on the issue.

Thanks ez. I'm gonna go for the 166. I'm hoping the gate will come in handy when tracking drums, etc...

I used the 266xl primarily on vocals. I wasn't really that pleased with it.
Anybody want to buy it?

How much?

100.00- you pay shipping. Has original box, instruction manual, etc... Used inside, non-smoking home.

Prepal.com has it averaging around 115.00

I wouldn't track with it, but I'd want the variable release on the 166xl. Except for general noise control, Auto fast/slow switches for decay control is pretty hit and miss.

I picked up a dbx project 1 (274?) not at home right now, on ebay for about 80 bucks. It was 4 channels of gate/expander. If you can find one they work great.
Im selling a DBX 363x dual channel gate on ebay right now for really cheap ($25). I didn't care for it too much since I prefer to use expansion but it may work for you.
The gate/expander on the behringer composer aren't too bad either if your in a pinch. You can usually find those for about 50 bucks.
