Even has a two man jakuzzi in the suite:eek: The only thing is, I can't remember what to do in there:
I don't even want to think about what one might do in a two man jacuzzi.

So c'mon guys, has anyone actually seen his wife?? :D :D

Great night last night !

Got home from the wastelands of N.West England at around 7.00pm and walked around the corner with my daughter to meet with my daughters band members and their partners for dinner at our village pub. I was my daughters escort for the evening, my wife and other daughter (who also sings with the band) were both ill with colds/flu and so couldn't go. A great night ensued, lots of beer, good food and stimulating conversation.
I sat next to a guy who is just about to sign a record contract, he was as excited as you can imagine someone to be. I hope it all works out for him.

New DAW

Today I load up my DAW with the Delta66 and omni.:D I feel like a kid at Christmas:rolleyes:
Report to follow.

Paul, you're really going to love the performance from the new system. It screams! Good luck my man.

I only hope some day my daughters get the music bug. Singing ability would be a definite bonus! That must be the coolest thing.

Thanks Chuck, my youngest daughter is music mad and is currently studying for her Royal School of Music grade 5 exams in Piano and voice. (7 is the top grade - degree entry). She wants a career in the music business but has no illusions, she is wise enough and has seen enough to know how tough it is. She currently sings in a covers band, is a member of the youth County Choir and sings solo at a number of events, sometimes in a wine bar with me on guitar. At the moment, she is just getting as much variety of experioenece as she can. But she's a bright girl and she is now thinking that maybe she would have better financial prospects if she was to study Business or some other commercially valuable subject at University. Its real cool when we perform together, makes me feel very proud.;)

As regards the new DAW, I am having problems with sound...I can't get any! I think my ati card driver multi-media software has disabled the windows volume control cos it isn't on the tool bar, nor can I open it from my programs menu.:( Its only something stupid, it usually is! But its the promise of the DAW sceaming that excites me:rolleyes:

An update report to follow. Then we can compare performance notes (that'll have Guy reaching for his cheque book:D )

...speaking of Guy reaching for his wife's chequebook (note the hip Euro-spelling), I looked at the Carillon and figured the system I just had put together would have cost me over double the price through them for a core setup. I realize I didn't get the soundproofing and cooling gizmos or a rack mounted box, (I'm working on the latter as I am very tight with some welders at work and my father-in-law does sheet metal - a custom case could be in order). However the Achilles heel of any Windows-based DAW is, well, Windows.

I've kind of given up on Carillon for the time being, having shopped around and found much better prices on comparable equipment but damn they sure do have a good sales pitch. Here's the place that is getting heavy consideration from me....

I have to wait until the bathroom and deck are done before I order because I'm weak and it would be too much of a distraction with projects pressing.  :o

The fact is my present computer handles the job pretty well because I only do simple stuff. The only time I run into trouble is with a soft synth and a few plugs going My input monitoring gets dicey. My main reasons for wanting a new rig are to have a dedicated machine that was'nt going to have Polly Pocket,Lego racers and Hallmark cardshop on it competeing for time.Plus I'd like to use more softsynths and samplers without worrying.

The bottle of brandy

Well the last payment for the house will be mailed soon and I've got a bottle of brandy I've been saving for this occasion.I bought this bottle while on our honeymoon in San Francisco. We were taking a tour of winerys and stopped at a brandy making facility.

At the end of the tour of this building you of course were given the opportunity to buy some of their product.Well I just grabbed a few bottles, one of peach brandy another plain and one of their top shelf brandy.I get in line ready to pay and the price is $150!I never checked the price of the special reserve stuff and it was $100!
Now of course I just sucked it up and bought it anyways, but unlike youse guyz I'm not in the practice of buying one hundred dollar bottles of booze so I decided to save it until my house was paid off and drink it then.

Hey acidrock,

Just scanning thru and I saw you were looking at Advanced Design Kentucky. Good people there. I built my own DAW (RYO Thunderbird from ProRec) and I got virtually all the parts from them. You may find cheaper components elsewhere but they are very helpfull on the phone and ship promptly.

My .02.

Mike has the same reasons for upgrading too;) :D

Brandy @ $100 a bottle

Guy, I can assure you I have never paid more than $30 a bottle for anything in my life. But I have done so on business account, but that doesn't count;)
House owning
Guy, I don't care what kind of house it is, paying your mortgage off before you are 40 is a credible achievement. Anyone with increasing income can borrow more money. You should be proud of your achievement so enjoy your brandy!:)

New DAW

Still having a few problems with the set-up. Will post in the Cakey BB.

Away again this week. Boy this is tough going:( A new DAW and not enough time to play with it:(

Calling Chuck, calling Chuck!

Chuck, what settings did you use with your ASUS mobo in relation to the audio? Did you install the audio drivers from the P4PE mobo disk and set the BIOS to auto for the audio? I haven't done that yet as I didn't think I needed to. But I cannot get access to the win mixer/volume control and it seems that to do so, I have to install the audio drivers.

Dream becoming reality...almost!

You remember a few posts back that I was looking to give up work and move to France/Spain to buy a farm and convert the out building to holiday lets? Plus a recording studio to record bands/musicians. Well, my wife mentioned over the weekend that she thinks it is an idea worth considering , so the germ of the idea is taking hold. She's a down to earth lass, not given to flights of fancy (one of in the household is enough:rolleyes: ) so I have to take this seriously. She's suggesting we go house-hunting in France for our vacation this year to look around.
Nothing like having your bluff called.

Paul, I had the shop install the mobo and drivers, but as soon as I got it home, I disabled the audio in the bios as I only want the Delta sound card.
This is easy to do and it is spelled out in the mobo manual, if you have it.
I'll be glad to give you specifics when I get home from work.

Then again, it doesn't sound like you want to disable the integrated audio. Do you?

There are quite a few homereccers who use this mobo. I think Stealthtech is one of them. He sounds very knowledgable. Do a search on Asus P4PE and you'll find a lot of talk about it.

Chuck, I think the key to it is that you have to load the audio drivers...and then disable the audio in the BIOS. Seems stupid but there again....

Must go, people hovering around me and I'm supposed to be working;) Thanks for your response though. I'll also track down some of the threads as you suggested.

Sorry to hear of your computer troubles Paul, but that's the reason I will have mine built (eventually) by a "pro".

If the France thing does'nt work out there's plenty of real estate opportunities here in good ol' Cudahy Wisconsin!

Well it's off to work.....

Back from the mountains, boys. Anyone miss me?

Er.....yes, of course:D Who were you mountain:D (mounting...get it:p )

Guy, its no problem really, makes me learn about my puter. Nearly there now..I hope:) If I had the cash I would start over and buy the whole machine configured.

But I have just fallen in love with a program called Kontakt. See my thread in the Cakewalk BB. I have to get some cash together to buy it.:)

The only thing scarier than some of the "mountain men" I saw up there, were some of the mountain women.

Hmmmmmmmm. France? Cudahy? France? Cudahy? France? Cudahy? Wow, tough choice.
:D :D

Mike, I see you are online instead of working. Good on yer;) And I'm working late in the office to download stuff:)

If you get this message in the next few minutes, I'll be around.

Nope, you've gone:( Never mind. Maybe we could arrange a time for all of us to get online in real time?

Is that what you call work?

Off today, went to a music store and checked out that new Line 6 Variax "modeling"guitar........ho-hum.If only the products could match the hype.

On the other hand I played one of those new Artcore guitars by Ibanez and I could'nt believe how nicely it's built for a paltry $299!
Geez if I did'nt have eight guitars already I'd have eight guitars now.

Paul have you got your computer running yet?Mines the one that should be balking with all the wretched playing it has to endure.

Well it's good to see that Mike made it back from his little trip you know what they say......"the hills do strange things to a man" or was it"men do strange things in the hills"?I forget,oh well.Did anyone tell you that "you sure do have a purty mouth"?

LATER!

Home tonight after being away all week working to run some fixes on my DAW to make it work correctly. It's nearly there, but not quite.

Mike obviously went to the land of "Deliverence" What a strange things those hills do to a man. We have a country included in the UK called Wales which is similar. There the men are men.... and the sheep are very afraid:D Rofl.

Guy, have you checked out the new POD yet? The Line 6 guitar got poor reviews here in the UK.
