Well one New York NFL team won last weekend.:DAfter being called the toughest division in football the NFC east has lost to the Cardinals,Browns,Rams and Bears.

I witnessed a miracle last night. The old Eli was resurrected from the dead.

That's exactly what he looked like until the playoffs last year. I hope he's not back for too long. :( :( :(

It's Friday!!!!
Not that it's any different for the likes of me and Mike anymore :p

On a more serious note, my current leave of absence is making me sit back and think about what I do and what I don't want to do anymore. I am thinking that working for big conglomerates with personal responsibility for hundreds of staff is not what I really want to do. Plus I would like to be involved in something more creative and less hassle. I was happiest when I was travelling the world setting up agents and chasing projects; when there was only myself to worry about. I knew that if I put the effort in I would always be successful at selling, so sales targets never bothered me.

Now I don't want to travel the world (only on vacations;)) but I definitely don't want the hassle of lots of staff anymore. And I am fed up with working for over aggressive bosses who make life miserable for everyone around them. Life's too short for all that crap.

As a result of all this thinking, I am currently trying to negotiate my way out of my current employment so I can reset my expectations and my future employment.

Of course, you will no doubt remind me of these ideals when I go and get a job similar to the last few I have had:rolleyes: :)

Weather here is wonderful; I am planning another bike ride later today in the Indian summer we are having. The leaves in the countryside where I live are all turning golden and begining to fall - its a beautiful autumn day (Fall, for you yankees;))

I trust the recession, shares, credit crunch, energy prices, inflation and jobless figures are not too depressing for you all. You also have an election to look forward to:). Looks like Mr Obama is the next president, McCain was poor in the last tv debate I thought. He can't be any worse than the current muppet.:(

Laters!!!!

Good morning!
Well I'm off to work, unlike some other people I know.:D

The economy
I lost 10K this year but I'll just have to make it back. It's a good thing I have a ways to retire.:rolleyes:As for my personal economy, things are great.I'm making more money this month than I have in ages.Garage doors are pretty much recession proof. It also helps having a job nobody wants. We can't get anyone to work for us dpite insurance,401K and a "living" wage.I think everyone wants a desk position.

Plus I would like to be involved in something more creative and less hassle.
Not a day goes by that I don't think the same thing.
Realistically it'll be when I can afford to take a huge paycut.:DThe thing is I could see myself pouring lots of hours into a job like this also.I become consumed by things I want done.

Piker! I've had days this year where I've lost that much (one of them was this week, in fact).

Not a good time to be retired. :( :(

Me too - I was too slow withdrawing my pension funds :(

Guy, with your practical skills, have you ever considered owning a franchise? Home repair or building maintenance, something like that? People always need something fixing on their office or home;)

Piker! I've had days this year where I've lost that much (one of them was this week, in fact).

It's a lot when you consider I've only been in it four and a half years.:eek:My last job had a pension and I won't find out what that's worth until at least ten years from now.

My wife has a fixed rate Roth, which a lot of people considered dumb two years ago,but we hedged our bets and came out smelling like a rose on that one.I also like it because you can withdraw from it without a penalty(which we have not done) and it serves as a substantial emergency fund.
There's a story behind the Roth also.I live in the city and lots are small.I own what is consider a lot and a half.My neighbor owns a double lot.If he chose to,he could sell his vacant lot and someone could build a house on it.This would mean I would have another house within about eight feet of my house.:mad:He doesn't want to sell but if he died things would be up in the air.I've offered to buy the lot a number of times but he won't sell it.We are good friends however and he wrote into his will that the lot should be sold to me upon his passing.I have a copy of it signed by him.I'm hoping it works out as planned and I want to use the Roth to pay for the lot should he pass away. It's only 30X120 but that's enough to build a house on,therefore it's worth a few $$$$.:eek::eek:

Right now it's a garden,my plans would be(after the kids move out)to extend my deck around the side of my house, make the downstairs bedroom into a den with sliding doors going onto the deck.Maybe throw in a hot tub.:cool:No pool,it's to cool near the lake.

I always tell myself I don't know what my next job is going to be.
If I'm financially set a low pressure maintenance job would be okay.I'm not into the handy man thing too much,I'm too good at doors and because of that that's where the money is.Once again, everybody has at least one garage door around here and that's not counting commercial work.So it's kind of like a dog chasing it's own tail in a way.

It is a personal goal of mine to have a third career.
I enjoyed cooking.I never made any money but I learned a lot and worked with a wide variety of people.
In garage doors I paid for my house,I'm raising my family and building a nest egg. It's very hard physical work, but I'm on the road everyday working in situations going from luxury boathouses to chemical plants.
My third career I'm hoping to be a job that makes me want to go to work.I have no idea what it'll be though.

Impressive/not so impressive
Boston winning 8 elimination games in a row, kind of like fourth quarter comebacks.Yeah you won them, but you put yourself in a position to lose in the first place.IF Boston goes onto the World Series it will be quite the feat none the less.

Guy, I think Paulson should appoint you head of Banking for the Western World immediately. If these bankers had followed your nose for debt avoidence, we wouldn't be in the mess we are now.

And Margaret Thatcher would have approved of your fiscal housekeeping too:cool:

So thats your third career sorted then.:)

I'm now looking at what I do next. The prospect of working for another big firm doesn't appeal but I can only get the sort of pay I am looking for if I take the bait:( Until our youngest daughter is out of University in May 2010, I am somewhat trapped.:o $30k a year is a lot of cash to find, after tax.

As it is, I am just looking around and seeing what comes up;)

I have some mortgage derivatives and credit default swaps I can let you in on. Say for $.90 on the $1.00. It's like have a printing press for money. :D :D

Looks like they lost the most important one... the last one. :p :p :p Couldn't happen to a nicer team.

That's not so far from the truth.I could've f##ked things up every bit as well as the hot shots in the suits and I would've worked for half the pay.I wonder how much it pays to be a successful business person?

Ask Mike where he looked and don't bother looking there.

Oooh,Philly/Tampa that's really a compelling, intriguing matchup.:rolleyes:Fox will be competing with the public access channel for ratings.

Except you wouldn't have f##ked it up - you have more common sense than all that lot put together ....and then some:cool:

What with your common sense, Mike's superior ears and my ability to find exquisite vacation places, we should form a business partnership and write an appropriate business plan:D

Ideas on a postcard......:)

Giants-Steelers on Sunday. The G-men's first real test.

I hope they don't embarass me. :o They haven't looked like world beaters the last two weeks.

Sounds good, now all we need is some suc...er,ah investors.;)

More $$$ talk
I worked in a subdivision that had a couple unfinished abandonded houses. If a guy was buying his first home now you could really get a sweet deal.

Work
I've got a two day weekend,whoo hoo!

Same here - if you got cash right now you can get 50% off house prices. In reports I have seen from America, it was reported that it is possible to get 90% reductions:eek: I'm not sure I would want to live in those places though;)

I have a seven day weekend, whoo hoo! (no change there then;))

:D

Another sign of the times?
There's a music franchise that specialises in resale called Music-go-round and I stop in occasionaly because you never know what you might find. The store was jam packed with gear, more than I've ever saw before.

Anyways,I was checking out twelve strings and out of the six or so they had there a very beat up Seagull was the best sounding/playing of the bunch. They're asking $350 but I'm hoping to get it with a case and taxes at $400.I've been thinking about getting a 12 but I had myself in the $600-800 dollar range.

BTW,I built a rack for my guitar cases out of some old oak boards I had laying around and it has room for about five more guitars.:D

I'm thinking about building a new amp rack,it'll probably have some extra room as well.;)

I have a 365 day weekend coming up.
So for you retirement is like work just without the pay?

Today
Is trick or treat,It's gonna be lousy outside so I'm not expecting much business. My wife didn't buy chocolate so thetre's no danger of me getting sick from eating too much. We're giving out Lemonheads, licorice and pencils.

You don't have calendars in Wisconsin?? Friday is Halloween! I know, because it's my birthday. :D :D :D

Did you see anything in music-go-round that might make a nice birthday present?

Well I found a nice present for my birthday.

Looks like it's tricks and no treats for you.:p

Buy some gear and stimulate the economy,it's your patriotic duty.;)

I'll have you know that in the last 4-5 weeks I have bought a pair of headphones, a gooseneck mic holder, a headphone extender cable, a boom mic stand, and two clamp-on sheet music trays.

So there. :p :p
