DAW Users With ADD

Dressed funny and never goes anywhere.
Mike, you can dress how you want if all you are going to do is stand moping around at home, looking at mold when you take a leak:) And then not having the decency to buy a guitar instead of paying to fix the decor:D

Just go buy the Taylor 314CE , you will not be disappointed. Think of it as an investment, it will always be worth what you paid for it and thats a decent price @ $1300. Takamine are good, so are Yamahas, Santa Cruz are to die for (James Taylor uses them - just hear those strings "ring".:) Martins are also top of the tree but I love Taylors, they are just that bit brighter than the Martins and have more sparkle. And the CE has the cutaway too.
Aren't I good at persuading other people to spend their money? Its just my own I have a problem with:rolleyes: But I have spent out lately guys, fair play here:p And a new DAW on the horizon too.:D

Mike,
here's where I get to play counterpoint to Paul.
I think Taylors,Martins etc,etc are great guitars but I also think that good guitars can be had for a better price than ever before.I often think "damn!I could of gotten a few great guitars instead of the motley collection I have now." But I think there's a lttle bit of vanity that goes along with the craftsmanship of these guitars too. That's okay if you're looking at the resale value, but if it's just a recording tool go for the cheapest guitar that sounds good to your ear and plays well. That's why the Martins never did anything for me,I've always felt I could get two really nice guitars for the price of one Martin.
Living here in the Milwaukee area it's really frowned upon to ride anything other than a Harley(Milwaukee iron) but a Honda(rice grinder)will get you where you want to go just as well. You just won't pick up as many chicks with the Honda.(Thar's where the vanity part comes in)
My other reason for liking cheap guitars is when I smash into something because I'm to lazy to take it off while I'm rearanging cables, mics and what not,I'm not kicking myself in the ass as hard for scratching it.
Yup,I'm almost forty years old and I'm still not responsible enough to have a vanity guitar.
No I did not get the autotune but the offers good till the thirtieth,I ran it by my wife again this morning and probably will decide tonight.
The only other software I'm interested in at this moment is mastering software and I have demo's of Ozone,Vintage warmer and Waves.
That will probably be aquired with the help of Santa Claus.;)

Chuck, that headphone amp sure is nice, makes life a lot easier. The only thing is now I find myself monitoring over the phones more than the speakers!

Paul, did'nt you get that new computer yet?Your getting to be quite the slacker these days.

I ran the new computer line past the old lady a few times seeing as my present setup is the allpurpose family setup at the moment.
I'm holding out for one of those Carillon firebreathing, takes any thing you throw at it and spits it out rigs.
But in order to justify the expense I may have to actually record something!

Oh....almost forgot about football,
Well half the Packers are'nt playing this week because of injuries:( .We've got a huge Monday nighter against the arch-rival Bears and after that a game against an ultra-lucky east coast team whose name escapes me at this moment.;)

This could be a long couple of weeks, hmmm I wonder if autotune could help me through these rough times?

LATER!

Thanks for the push, gentleman. Your right, Paul. If I'm not gonna get rid of the mold, then I need to buy a guitar. Otherwise, I might just as well have stayed married. :)

One last question. What's the word on Tacoma guitars? I played n A/E cutaway today with the sound hold in the upper left of the guitar instead of the center; however I thought it sounded pretty good. Under $1000 (barely).

Guy, I know what you're saying about buying the guitars that sound the best for the price. However, I don't always trust my ears. I need to play a guitar for a couple of months in various different settings before I'm certain whether I like it or not. Unfortunately, Guitar Center won't let me demo it for that long. That's why the name stuff seems a safer bet.

Oh well. Good luck to the Pats, Pack, and Jints tomorrow.
OK. . . and to Baltimore on Monday night.

As ever Guy, down to earth common sense in your post, I actually agree with all you write. As a notorious "tight wad" (it is easier to squeeze blood from a stone than to prise cash out of my wallet), I have to confess to taking forever to choose to buy stuff and when I do, I will have viewed all the angles a zillion times. That way, I make sure I get the biggest bang for the buck. I bought an acoustic guitar when I was 18 years old and it is still the one I use every day, I record with it, bash it into stuff cos I too are too lazy to take it off when messing with levels, leads etc, and I use it to play gigs with. It's a cheap japanese, no label guitar but it sounds great. You might have heard it when I recorded rythem & lead on "Drovers Way" that David K put the violin over. I compare every guitar I hear with that signature. It doesn't have great sustain but it sounds clean and has sparkle. Not much depth, but sparkle. So for recording and the like it is fine, a journeyman guitar. I dislike the boomy dullness of Martins; to me they sound muddy and loud.

Two years ago I had to buy an entry level acoustic guitar for a relatives Christmas present from his wife and she asked me to choose it. Of course this entailed spending weeks in guitar shops trying out every model.;) In the end, it came down to a Crafter or a Fender. I was torn; the Fender would be a name my Brother in Law would recognise and he could say to his mates " look at me, I've got a Fender" and they would be impressed. But the Crafter sounded superb, we are talking sub $300 here, BTW. So after great debate, I bought the Crafter. And now his guitar tutor says its the best sounding guitar for the money he has heard. And he should know cos he's got a playing and recording career to drool over, plus a collection of over 80 guitars.

There is a guitar shop near me that specialises in acoustic guitars so every now and then, I leave wifey to the shopping and I spend half an hour in there, trying out the guitars. And to my ears, the best sounding is the Taylor. Of course, there are others too that sound good, but they are near or at the price of the Taylor, so why not go for the name; its value is in the name second hand. Do they sound better than my Jap guitar? Yes, they have more sustain so "ring" for longer. Also, be aware that the age of the strings and their type has an enormous influence on the sound of a guitar. Some shop guitars have em fitted for months and are out in a shop gathering dust most time. If you are serious about buying, I would insist on new strings for you to demo the guitar, especially at that price. if you are at all concerned that they have been on for a period of time. For me, the strings must be Phosphor Bronze, they sound brighter. I even fitted Brass string pegs to my guitar to get more of a zingy sound.

Aka the Takoma, I have not played one so can't really say but their shape and style is an acquired taste. I would be worried about second-hand value. But thats me, I'm a self confessed tight wad.:)

Regarding Baltimore vs Denver on Monday; I am waiting for Baltimores offense to kick in. (Pun is intended ;) )After the bye week they should have managed to get some rest and be rearing to go. But I won't be holding my breath:D

As I post this Europe has just beatn the USA to win the Ryder cup in a great weekend of golf with some tremendous match play from both sides. I'm not sure if any of you are golfers, as I post, its still a couple of hours before kick off in any NFL games. AcidRockMan will have chewed his nails and his wife and kids are in hiding:D

Well I am off to bed now but as I post the GBP won a close contest so Guy will be happy all week, the Giants are 7 square in the 3rd Q. The Jets got royally stuffed and the Pats lost 21-14.

Later!

There are times in life when I wished I owned a dog. Cause about now I'd be kicking its sorry ass all over the house.

I told you I should NEVER EVER make a prediction on a Giants game.

How can a team score on its opening possession, and then not even sniff the end zone for the entire rest of the game? Better yet, how can Phoenix miss a FG with 20 seconds left in the half, and then rather then take a knee, these dopes call for a pass in the flats - which of course gets picked off and run back for a touchdown. This is one pitiful football team, starting with the coaching staff.

The only one I feel worse for is Chuck - since he actually had some aspirations for his team.

Well, there goes my lock o' the week streak. :(

But on the bright side: Yanks-Angels starting Tuesday !!!!!

(Paul, I'm not into golf. I played it once or twice and then decided I already had plenty of frustration in my life, and didn't really need to add more. So now I just tell people that golf is for sissy's and us manly-men wouldn't be caught dead playing it. :) )

Now, where's that dog??

AUGGHHH!!!!
My heart.....I can't take any more of these made for Hollywood endings. My beloved Packers are 3-1 and in first place in the NFC north, but they could just as easily be 0-4!
Monday night next week against the wretched, slimey, low life,no-good,puppy kicking, inconsiderate, cheating Chicago Bears.
Just to give you some perspective on the rivalry,if the Packers go 2-14 and the two wins are against the Bears that's considered a "good season"!
If they go 14-2 and the losses are to the Bears the season will be tainted.
Well I guess it's better to be lucky than good,Chuck knows all about that.;)

BTW I just ordered the autotune,Paul got his goodies and Chuck got his headphone amp......

Mike,I think a nice new guitar would get your mind off those Giants.(you are on probation for picking games though)

About that Ryder cup thingy....even a blind squirell gets an acorn now and then.

I've got some responses, but they'll have to wait. Picture me typing with one finser while holding the baby, trying to get her to stop nursing off me, that;s me. Gotta go,....

Damn Packers are gonna kill me yet. Squeaking it out in the end of every game isn't gonna do anything but make me sick. Gotta take the 3-1 as it comes though, division games coming.....

And the PATS!?!? At least I think San Diego's gonna have a hard time in Denver next week. Can't stand the raving of the fair weather fans here...

Barometer,I don't really know what your background is but the "fair weather fan" comment is so true about some teams.
That's whats so great(?) about Packers fans, thick or thin they always back their teams.
When they used to play a Milwaukee county stadium I went to quite a few games in lousy weather just to watch them get their asses kicked and still had a good time(?).
Of course here in Wisconsin any time you can come up with an excuse to get drunk......

Well Chuck,is going back to work a good thing or a bad thing?
Both of my kids were born in the dead of winter which is my busiest time at work and I only took a week off each time.My boss (who also happens to be my uncle) was miffed that I wanted a week off.Boy you shold of heard his reaction...I thought babies cried alot!

LATER!

Working with your Uncle sure sounds fun:eek: In Europe it is law that you get to take time off Paternity leave. I wanted mine backdated 16 years but the lawmakers missed that bit out:) Question, why is winter your busiest time? Here, for the building trade, its Spring and summer, due to the weather. Which is much milder than Milwaukee.

I spent the whole of the weekend recording, probably 20 hours in all. But a more honest and accurate description would be 19.5 hours of messing about and 30 mins with the mics "on". Why? Cable problems, words to the song, problems with drum loops, problems with my DAW (definately going before Christmas - I might give it flying lessons and throw it through the window anyday soon:mad: The Carillion units look good but I have to have a full tower cos of the physical arrangements where it is going. My last company used stacks of them for industrial applications (pipeline control systems). Well made and secure. Have you had final permission from the VP of Finance to upgrade yet?;)

Hey acidrock. I'm in San Diego and the Chargers "fans" for lack of a better word ar the most fair weather of any I have experienced. Most people here don't even care about football, too much better shit to do with their time I guess, and ONLY pay attention after the Chargers do well for a period of time. Then starts the hype. They went to the Super Bowl a few years back, man was that hell. Afterwards for the next few seasons, not a peep, they sucked and noone even complained except local sportscasters who get paid to talk about it.

I grew up on the East Coast (PA) where football IS what you do on Sunday. Been a Packers fan since I was a lad and that won't change. I stand behind the Eagles too and always will, they're the home town team and Eagles fan might get pissed, but they're always there. Must be so cool to be in the midst of all the Packers fan fare. I think I would love it.

Well at least we probably won't have to consider Minnesota and Detroit too much this year, and thank god Tampa Bay is in the South now. Chicago next week..... :)

And Paul, we'll see what happens to those Ravens tonite.....

Yeah, last night that Taylor was whispering to me in my sleep. Glue a little hair around the sound hold and I could easily fall in love. :D

And, I promise, no lock 'o the week, this week. (You will, of course, let me know when my probation is lifted??)

Paul, sounds like you weren't too productive on the recording stuff this weekend. That's the way it goes sometimes. Hopefully not too often.

Chuck, I see from your post you were pretty much in a hurry. Did you have to run out and get some Yankee paraphenalia in preparation for tomorrow night? :) I have this image of you sitting in your living room, new daughter in lap, wearing your Yankee cap and #2 Derrick Jeter jersey, waving a Yankee pennant. :D :D :D :D I guess that's better than me, cuddling up on the couch with Ms Taylor 314CE. "Can I get you anything before the game starts, honey? New strings? Coat of wax?"

Barometer, you grew up in Philly? That's only a river away from god's country. :D Actually, the few times I was in San Diego I absolutely loved it. If it didn't have any Californians there, it would have been perfect. <grin>

Guys,
Back to work in seven hours. Just got back from a studio session for a friend's band (they were supposed to record here - it would've been my first real gig, but they backed out at the last minute thanks to the singer). Anyway, this studio has a window between the control room and the sound-treated room. Ooohhh.... I'm not bitter:mad:
I gotta say the engineer seems to know his stuff and all. He gets a steady flow of business and has been at it awhile. I don't know how he does it with ADATs, but I guess he's used to it. Seeing the waveform and all the flexibility PC recording gives, I'd be hard pressed to go back technologically. Just my .02....
Man, last night, the baby was freaking out while I was online. Pretty funny actually. She takes a bottle, which frees the wife up to do other stuff, like sleep.:D
I'm taking advantage of the Family Leave Act. I'm entitled to 12 weeks (and I think it's the law, anyway) , but can only afford four. My company is a family run business, but was bought last year by a BIG corporation. The former owner is still on board for another few months and is effectively a lame duck. He went out of his way to be a prick to me before I left because, in his day, the men went to work and the women raised the kids...and they liked it!
Were he still in charge, I don't think he would have begrudged me my time off. But I think it galls him that I can take the time off and he can't do a fucking thing about it!....Score one for the good guys!
Mike, I think I'm going to sit out the baseball post season this year. I know it sounds like sour grapes. Well........it is.:(
As for the Patriots, it looks like they're having trouble defending the run. But the fact is, they're not tackling. I think next week's game (Miami) is HUGE. BTW, the Pats always play in Miami during the good weather, then in New England in like December...Hello? Every year.....Gotta go. Kid's crying.

Well guys, (and especially Paul) consider me wrong on all football predictions this year. I haven't got a thing right yet. My fantasy team is in the basement with a 300 point difference from 1st place. I guess all I can count on is the Pack in 1st place of their division, gee that's a scary thing to hold onto. Here I go slinking away with my tail between my legs. Sorry Paul, go Ravens :o ;)
Man, San Diego alone at 4-0, that's just not right...

Maybe I should continue my predictions so everyone can go bet the opposite and win the ranch?

OH yeah Mike, I'm from a suburb of Allentown, about 60 miles north of Philly, not too far from you I guess. God's country, eh? That's not how I remember Pennsylvanian's referring to Jersey ;) :D Man I wish I could go get a good cheesesteak right about now...

Ravens 34 - 23 Dallas Wussyboys:D

Mike, this NFL is easy, looks like I can pick winners;)

So Denver has fallen from the ranks of the NFL's undefeated, courtesy of a strong performance by Baltimore on Monday night. And what about Ravens CB Chris McAlister? He has set a record for the longest play in NFL history with a 108-yard field-goal return.

But as an Englishman, WTF do I know about it?:p

Mike, go buy the Taylor, you know it makes sense:rolleyes:

My sister lives outside Allentown. The town is called Barto, I think.

And maybe you didn't call it god's country, but I imagine you and your homies spent some time "down the shore." :)
