DAW Users With ADD

Thank you to all my yankie buddies and the "kind" birthday/age comments. So nice to feel appreciated. As if any of you lot are under 40:D
All sport is like coastal erosion if your teams losing. I'll pass on the soccer jibes, we did all that back during the World Cup. (Memory is still impressive huh? )Spent all day fiddling with my new keyboard, trying to get it to work with my desk top puter and my lap-top. Couldn't hear the midi outs.
Finally figured that I don't have my s/blaster soundcard with the midi keyboard connection connected to my omni+monitors  What a plonker. The man at the Evolution Help desk was kind enough to only snigger a bit:D Still, at my age, I don't care and I can get away with it:D :D Out for dinner tonight with wifey and my two girls.:)
Later, guys.

So Barometer I take it you're a miserable married man just like the rest of us?
I must have done something extremely bad in another life.:(

Well the Packers have the lowly Lions next sunday,if they lose that one I'll....I'll......well I hope I don't find out what I'll do.

I'm not miserable, as much as you can not be miserable and still be married ;) But married nonetheless.

Lions? BAH! I can't even stand to think there's something to worry about there. But the D and the O-line looked so pathetic last week.....oh, I'm not going to think about it that way.

GO PACK!

BTW.....
If the Packers lose on sunday you will find me in a closet curled up in the fetal position, sucking my thumb and murmuring...mommy,mommy,mommy :(

No way it's gonna happen acidrock, no way.....

GO PACK!

Hmmmm, no one has asked me for Mike's NFL Lock o' the Week yet. Are youse beginning to doubt my powers? They don't call me Quasimodo for nothing!! :D (Soprano's reference, for the uninitiated.)

Anyway, out of concern for AR's family, I'll stay away from picking the Packers (although that one was very tempting).

Chuck, it looks like the Pats are finally getting some respect (+9 ???). Therefore, I will also stay away from that game.

The game to really, absolutely, positively stay away from is Jets-Miami. That game could easily be 55 - 7 either way.

And despite their records, Minn. at home giving 5.5 to Carolina was another tempting choice.

However, the official lock of the week is going to Philadelphia, giving 9 to Dallas. A lot of points, but I smell a 27 - 10 win for Philly here.

Take it to the bank!!

100 The number of losses the Brewers are looking at by tamale
Maybe you could hire that guy from Chicago to come and beat up the whole team. :)

Okay,so as you all may know cakewalk is offering autotune for $229 with free s/h.
I'm really not rolling in dough right now but the price sounds pretty good.I ran it by the chief financial officer and she said...
"Does this mean you're getting it?"
Which I interpet as "okay"because she usually will say "no".
Which I interpet as "maybe".
Even so I'm a little gunshy about pulling the trigger on this because as you know there are so many other things I could use this money on.

Is this a jump on it now price?

I really can't make any other aquisitions now,my wife is cutting me slack on this one because I apealed to her weakness for sale prices.
Top ten reasons I should get auto tune
10.all the cool kids have it!
9.But honey without it all my other gear is virtually useless.
8.Prices like this only come around once every couple of days.
7.If you let me have this I won't ask for anything again;)
6.There's software programmers who are depending on me....you would'nt want to let them go hungry.....would you?!
5.If I don't get this I'm gonna hold my breath till......
4.If you really love you'll let me get this....
3.10% of the proceeds go toward a cure for "techno"
2.the guys on the bbs are making fun of me because I don't have it!

And the no.1 reason for me to get autotune(drum roll please).....

1.You've heard me sing......
IT'S AUTOTUNE OR OUTTATUNE!

I make no apoligies for being so pathetic,it's worked for me so far.:( ;)   :) :D

Mike, maybe if I lay some cash on the Eagles I could finance this autotune thingy that way........
I can always tell my wife...
"Hey some guy on the internet said it was a sure thing!"

LATER!

Guy - Wow is this an about face! Weren't you the one bashing autotune just a couple of weeks ago.

All I can say is, IMHO, autotune is a valuable tool for your studio. BUT, so are a lot of other things (like the Waves Mastering Plugins, for ex.). Autotune will NOT make you into a singer. It WILL help to correct occasional intonation problems, and used properly it will be pretty much imperceptable.

My suggestion is to list the top three things you think your studio needs the most right now. Study the list and see if autotune jumps off the page at you. If so, go for it.

I guess, in the grand scheme of things, if I can consider spending $1K on a guitar, given the way I play, you can most certainly consider $229 software to improve your vocals. Plus, the wife already gave you permission. :) You should tell her that you promise to listen to every word she says from now on.

And finally, NO ONE should ever place any money on my picks of the week - most especially ME!!! :D :D

P.S. If you do go for it, talk to me after you get it. You should only use it in graphical mode. Automatic mode pretty much sucks. Graphical mode will take a bit of a learning curve, though. I can probably help you through it. (Or you can go through the tutorials.)

Guy, I installed Autotune a few months ago and for the odd few notes off key it works a treat. Mike is right though, graphic mode is the only real option. You can get some "interesting" outcomes if you start messing with the retune speed and tracking knobs.

Do not think you can sing a whole song and it will correct all your pitch problems. Like everything, you can overdo it.

Even so I'm a little gunshy about pulling the trigger on this because as you know there are so many other things I could use this money on
What, like another new guitar?:D

I just got my new laptop up and running, fantastic, a Sony Vario. Need a sound card for it, thinking of buying an M-audio quattro so I can use my omni with it. Portable USB plug and play. Utopia!!

I see the Ravens have been given a weekend off this week. Is that cos they suck or that they failed to score last week?

Best of luck for the Packers against the Lions and the Pats against the City Chiefs.

Later!

Perhaps I did'nt make myself clear enough in a post made earlier in this thread.
I'm not against autotune(obviously) what irks me about it is its use as a tool in the bigger picture.......
taking music out of the hands of artists and making music more of a corporate product .
It seems as though the trend for big selling cd's is that the name/picture on the cover has the least involvement with the cd.
They don't,
write the song,
pick the song,
play the instruments,
do the arranging,
do the mixing, and I may be missing something.
Now auto tune comes on the scene and the "artist(?)" does'nt even have to do a competent job of singing even with multiple takes!

Now they can just mail in the performance, have the engineer fix it up,and as long as there are some canned tracks ready for the concert tour they're set to go.

What really set me off on this was a few years back Traci Lords (of the underage porn star fame)was given a record deal and got on all the usual media outlets to promote herself. Now I suppose this scenario has played itself out multiple times over the years(have you heard the great recordings of William Shatner?)but it just stuck in my craw that if you wanted to make an album and get it out to the public you'd have a better chance if you had some b-list celebrity status/notoriety than actual talent.

As great as autotune could be for me it also brings Joey Buttafuco and Monica Lewinsky closer to getting a record deal.
And yes that really is them singing.

I guess it's just the classic case of unintended results.

As far as the usage,I can actually sing(?)but it's not star search material.I have about a half an octave range!
I would just use auto tune if I wanted to reach a note.

Don't ever worry about me gambling, the largest bet I've ever made was $10,years ago.

Paul you have pulled into the lead of the gear aquisition derby!:D

Chuck must be busy changing diapers as his appearances have become less frequent........
C'mon whats more important, your family or some guys on the internet?

Hey now, I'm still here....BTW Guy, I just finished watching the Vince Lombardi SportCentury on ESPN...now I'm totally jacked about tomorrow's Pats game!

Diapers are ok at this age, so I don't mind changing them, but, the new baby (Micro-Chick, we call her), will use a pacifier which means she'll take a bottle and I no longer have the "I'd love to get up at 3 am honey, but I'm just a man, so you have to feed her" excuse. Now comes the hard work.......

I still have one week's family leave left and I gotta say I STILL don't miss work.... :(

Er, geez thats a hard one:( Do my mates on the internet:

Complain?
Nag?
Abuse my wallet?
Lecture me about my drinking habits?
Give me lists of chores?
Expect me to run a taxi service for them? (It is 5am in the morning here, have got up at 3am to drive my youngest daughter to school to catch a bus cos they are off to France for a week)
Complain about the time I spend on my music?
Complain about the cash my music consumes?
Expect me to be pleasant all the time?
Expect me to do yard work?
Expect me to fix everything from the car to the leaking roof?

No, so there you have it, guys on the internet by a country mile:D

Chuck, I used to get up in the middle of the night to feed my youngest. Held her and a bottle in one hand, learnt to use a computer with the other arm/hand:) Wifey could never understand my readiness to get up and do this......:D

Paul you have pulled into the lead of the gear aquisition derby!
Maybe, but I only got 7 guitars, only another 20 to go to catch you up:)
Got some new software purchases lined up, Amplitude, a VST software amp and fx plugin. Got a good review in this months SOS mag. Plus another couple of mics, a multi fx and voicechannel then my mixer.
Am into Fruity Loop big time at the present, having great fun with it. Had it ages but couldn't get on with it. Anyhow, after an intensive afternoon at work, bored to tears, boss away, I loaded it up and went through the tutorial. And haven't been able to put it down since.
Catch y'all later!

Well my Packers are playing the lowly Lions today, and it's kind of like getting into a fight with a girl......
If you win there's not a lot to brag about, and if you lose.....:(

Paul let us know how that amplitude sounds,I've heard it's the best of the software modelers. The amp simulater in cakewalk sucks with a capital S!
I like the Roland simulations in my 880 quite a bit, even over the revalver plugin.
I reckon I'll wait a for a generation or two of modelers to go by before I'm in the market for a new one.The prospect of multiple instances and noncommital to a sound is enticing though.I have'nt used the revalver much as it seems to be a bit of a resource hog.

Chuck just a local perspective on Bubba Franks,
we think he sucks, his 2001 stats are misleading and his pro bowl berth was a statement about the lack of good tight ends in the NFC.Last years backup David Martin figures to have a better year than ol' Bubba.
I think the Giants Jeremy Shockey will be the best tight end in the NFC this year.

LATER!

Going to see my Giants in a couple of hours. :) Do you want me to say hello to Holmgren for you, Guy?

Jeremy Shockey already has a weekly call-in spot on WFAN (the radio sports station in NY). Not bad for a rookie who has played all of 2 games. However, he does look like the real deal. He's already causing teams to change their defenses because of him, and he has made Toomer and Hilliard look almost like real wide receivers.

Chuck, you still got Ron Dayne in your fantasy league? I'm figuring him for a big day today.

Paul, the Ravens were told to go home and not come back until they learned how to play football. :)

I only have one guitar. :(

I only have one guitar. :(

I dropped Ron Dayne and picked up Dorsey Levens, but I'm going with Curtis Martin and Duce Staley this week again:confused:

I have two electric guitars and one acoustic plus a bass. None of them are worth more than $400.

Of course, if I didn't sell my Les Paul Custom to buy my wifes diamond, that'd be worth about 2 grand:(
