I ran out of weed very early in this process,
Oof... well, for what it's worth I never would have known had you not mentioned it.
... the solo guitar and the rhythm guitar sound like they're in different spaces - the rhythm's way forward, and the solo's way back. In terms of everything that's happening in the whole mix, it's the rhythm guitar that sounds out of context, so... dunno, but the first thing I'd try on it is some reverb on the rhythm guitar.
Yeah I agonized a little over that rhythm guitar track... I wasn't crazy about the tone and didn't think it sounded enough "like Bob". I even re-tracked it, but my second take was too close to heat's lead sonically and the two guits kinda stepped on each other, so we ended up just using the first take.... As it is, the recording is just so much cleaner than most live Dead recordings (just by virtue of being recorded on modern equipment) that I figure any minor mix issues just make it a little more authentic sounding (?)
