Hi,

I've just upgraded my D-108 to the D2424LV, I love it so far...most of the little changes I'd have liked in the D-108 have been put in. Track naming is one of them but I can't find a way to view the names other than in the track name edit mode in setup. Does anyone know if the names can be viewed through an easier method?

Thanks

Just use the program select [PGM SEL] button and the jog dial. ( see page 37 in the manual )

Thanks for the reply John but that method only shows the program titles, not the individual track names.

D'OH!!!! I hate it when I think I'm like smart or something and I actually just didn't comprehend the question correctly!! Sorry about that.

I only named all the tracks in a song once and it was so much work I didn't bother with it again. ;-)

It would be nice if there was a way to hold down a special key and then press the track arming buttons to see the track name or something but I don't think they have that feature.

How about going into the Edit menu then Track Exchange Mono. You could then spin through the tracks with the jog wheel and see their names. ( I haven't tried this . . .I don't think . . . ) See page 75 in the manual.

Best of luck!

Yeah, the track naming takes so long it's probably easier just to remember where everything is!

It'd be great if they could make it easier to view the names with a software update, shouldn't be too difficult.

Yeah, I had the same idea about using the 'track exchange mono', I think it's the best way to do it at the moment.

I can name the programme titles very easily through my computer with the ethernet connection but it won't let me rename the tracks as anything but "trxx.wav".

Just a small problem though, I'm still very happy with the recorder.

Thanks for the help John!

So, what all can you do with the ethernet connection? I don't have it on mine. Does it come with special software?

Thanks!

With the ethernet connection the 2424LV becomes an actual server with an IP address. I can firstly send the tracks to my computer directly, process them and send them back, but I can also access the recorder from anywhere with an internet connection with the IP, username and password of the Fostex.

They added a new software version when they installed the card at the factory which lets you set the IP address, user name etc. I think it's available from the Fostex site if you want to buy the ethernet card and install it yourself.

I was just snooping around the Fostex sites for new D2424LV downloads. If you go to the Japanese site on the downloads page you'll see some version 2.02 software that looks like it contains some Chase fixes and the new stuff for the Ethernet card.

PLEASE BE WARNED : I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS OR BEEN TOLD THAT IT WILL WORK! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

There is a read me file in the download. Below is the text translated by a free online translation utility ( it's actually worse than a real Fostex manual, image that! ;-)

wow, that actually is worse than the manual!.

2.02 Is the version I have installed. I've just had a look on the site of the UK distributors of Fostex www.scvlondon.co.uk They've got the software updates for most Fostex recorders if anyone is interested (including 2.02 for the 2424LV).

Thanks for the link. I couldn't find where the software downloads were at though. And hints for the feeble minded? ;-)
