Hello drumers! Here is my dilema.
I already had some zildjian cymbals, a 16" and a 20", and I bough a drum set that came with yet another 16" and another 20", so the ride that came with the drumset (that is now 20") I want to cut it and make it 18 or 17.
Any ideas how to do it?

Just offer to trade for another size cymbal in the Free Ads section below.

DUDE keep them around in case you break them!

Sell the others and buy new ones.

Why F up good cymbals?

Jeez!

It's not good cymbals, the drumkit is juggs and the ride I want to cut is juggs (since I already have a zildjian) and both 16" crashes I use, but the juggs ride doesn't fit in my kit, and I also want another crash. So instead of buying a new crash and keeping that ride useless, I thought it might be a good idea to cut it, especially since it will be much cheaper than buying a new one.

Been there done it bought the shirt... Not good results for me. The cymbals didn't sound like I wanted because I had no idea what I was doing I also had hoped they would sound better but they didn't . The cutting was easy using a band saw and a block to rotate the outer edge of the cymbal against. they were cheap cymbals and I really didn't care too much but was more interested in experimenting.

Try drilling holes instead. It works much better and you get some unique sounds. I have some Sabian prosonix splashes 8" and 10" that I drilled and then torched with a blow torch until they were very hot and that really made them sound cool. I don't know what the heat did to them but it did change the sound.

More than a "sound change", I'm looking for a "pitch change", as you know different cymbal sizes gives you different pitches, I have 2 16", 2 20" and nothing in the middle.
However if I cut it and still not satisfied with the sound, i might try that drilling thing :)

try this

run one of them over with your car. then hit the other one with an aluminum baseball bat about 100 times. Then use them.

They'll sound interesting. Definitely.
