Hello all, this is my first post on this forums after stumbling across in my quest for good audio.

I recently installed Cubase and it worked fine. Then after a few days everytime I started it up, it would just load upto the point where you see the windows and buttons and stuff, and freeze the whole computer (Windows xp pro) right there.

I tried the usual, uninstalling, reinstalling, drivers, even system restore with no success. I even tried installing Cakewalk Sonar, it gave an error saying my sound card was either inaccessible or does not support the audio format.

I'm guessing this is the reason cubase is freezing too, but after tweaking all kinds of settings (sample rate, etc) I can't get any results. I know its possible because Cubase used to work before.

Does anyone have this problem? How do I check if something really is using my soundcard? (I have a SIS 7012 Integrated soundcard, not the best but my needs are that professional either).

All other sound needs are working fine, I can play audio files (and hear them), I can even record sound in other software such as soundforge, Jesusonic, etc.

Thanks you for reading.

i would try running the prog in Safe Mode (done from boot menu)

If it runs fine i would say its your sound card, and would need to buy an external one (which you should do anyway)

I am no expert

Thanks for the reply djhead. I tried sonar (other program behaving similarly) and if I changed the sample rate to 48000 it stops complaining and works fine. I can't change the bitrate to cubase because it gets jammed and won't let me access it.

I will try your solution and run it in safe mode, will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for all the help.

P.S I can run all my audio program in linux (jack, etc). at 44100 bitrate.
