I was about to mention the speaker cable vs balanced audio cable issue when I noticed gecko zzed had got there first.
Rant for today:
I'm getting mighty annoyed by so-called audio specialist shops who give such stupid and patently wrong advice. Feeding from an interface to a powered speaker does NOT use "speaker cable" and anybody working in a shop selling such stuff should know that.
Even worse, the OP was ripped off royally when he was sold a "boutique" level of speaker cable at an exorbitant price. Even if this had been to feed from the output of an amp to a passive speaker (the application for which you use "speaker cable") a length of basic grade electrical mains cable with appropriate connectors would be perfect for the job. Anything claiming to be better is an audiophool rip off.
In the UK, a number of specialist audiophool companies have now paid heavy fines for making unsubstantiated claims and giving bad advice. It's time some American shops were prosecuted as well.
