I used to use the Console View. < hangs head > Sometimes I'd use it a lot.
I mean, there were days when I would be at work just thinking about 5:00 pm, when I could rush home, boot the computer and gaze at that beautiful thing.
We're here for you, Mike.
Pretty soon that was all I thought about. Sometimes I'd even crank 'er up before I'd even left for work in the morning.
Then I began skipping work entirely. I'd just hang out in the basement pushing those faders up and down with my mouse. Pretty soon I found out you could group them, and move like 5 or 10 of them at the same time. My usage skyrocketed after that.
I thought I was so cool. <shakes head >
You weren't cool, Mike. You were addicted.
Then I went on a real binge. Four days straight with nothing but me, Sonar and a mic. Didn't even stop for food.
Wife and kids finally left me when I spent the mortgage money on the Sonar 2.0 upgrade. She tried to tell me that with Sonar I didn't need the Console View. But I wouldn't listen.
Sometimes you just have to hit bottom.
I'm pleased to say I am on the road to recovery now. I've discovered envelopes and Track View and things are looking good. I know it's one step at a time and that I'm only an icon click away from falling off the wagon. But I think I'm going to make it.

I used to use the console view because I thought it was cool, and therefore I would, too, be cool. It made me look like a recoding genius even though my tracks still sounded like crap.
After coming to this BBS, I found the console view was viewed with disdain. And because I am a follower, I switched to the track view. I now know the true power of Sonar is held in the Track view. I have found my religion in the Track view.
My tracks still sound like crap. But, now, I can control how much crap goes through the mains. Plus, now, I feel a true part of AcKUS.
I haven't yet earned my big letter "C", I am still not cool, but the track view is!
I still open the console view to impress my 3 non-musical friends and my mom.

I think it would be great for final mixing, if it wasn't so damned UGLY !! I don't like to gaze at it, in fact, there's another thread on here where I was asking questions about what you could and couldn't do in there. So, honestly I don't use it. Have you seen the mixer view in Samplitude? Now THAT'S a dadburn mixer!! I think it would be worth the money to go to a multiple monitor setup just to spread that baby out!! Of course, when I was noodling with the demo, I couldn't find a damn thing in there, but boy was it pretty!!
I say leave the console view where it is. Those who like it, use it. Those who don't, don't. It has to remain a vesatile program, capable of fitting everyone's individual needs. I mean, I'm a guitar player, but I don't mess with that tablature stuff that you can do in there. And with the exception of James (Argo), I'll bet almost nobody uses the staff view!! That's way too nerdy!!! (Sorry, James!!)
Maybe James doesn't use the staff view, but he is the reputed king of orchestral soundscapes, right???

I say leave the console view where it is. Those who like it, use it. Those who don't, don't. It has to remain a vesatile program, capable of fitting everyone's individual needs. I mean, I'm a guitar player, but I don't mess with that tablature stuff that you can do in there. And with the exception of James (Argo), I'll bet almost nobody uses the staff view!! That's way too nerdy!!! (Sorry, James!!)

Started out in 8th grade with a few of my friends on analog gear. First it was just for fun mabye one or two tracks at a time. Over the years my habit grew. By the time I left high school I was up to 8 tracks at a time with effects on a real console. Sheesh what a habit. In college I moved up to the big stuff, 16 then 24 tracks console. Sliders moving all the time, multiple busses, then EQ. I knew I had gone over the edge when I started mainlining Parametrics and Multiband compressors. I had to have more tracks. Automation made things worse. I could forget about some of my tracks letting them move on their own and concentrate on what.... more tracks and synched tape machines.
When digital came along I moved right into Console view in Cakewalk 3. I've been hooked since the early 90s dragging all my bad habits with me. Point and click, chasing automation that had gone bad. A few months ago I was at the end of my rope. Strung out on bad tunes that never seem to sound right, still trying to make old rituals on analog gear transfer into a digital realm.
Then I came across a dachay2tnr thread. He was talking about the merits of the Track view. It was hard at first but slowly overtime I weaned myself from the hell that was console view. oh yeah... console view. I remember that now. Although after Uncle Mike`s tutoring I had completely forgotten about that view.. 
To me console view is like tits on a man. They look ok and break up that wide expance of skin, but aint worth shit for anything except to look at. If I need the knob rush, I just reach over and fondle the Tascam.

You have to remember that Pedulist doesn't use Autotune. So he probably sings the song 69 times, takes one on-key note from each take, and then uses Track 70 to patch together his vocal track.
Hmmm.... I guess that sometimes he includes drums, bass and guitar as well.
